The graphical novel is gloomy subversion of superheroes, but the show tones it down so much that I don't even know what is the point. E.g. Butcher of the show is a low-charisma loser who keeps crying about his wife. Meanwhile, the comic's Butcher is chad with unlimited charisma, who fucks every woman he sees, and who taught his dog to rape other dogs on command.

Nah, this is more akin to what Iron Man and the rest of the MCU could have been in Paramount's hands. The MCU is all but devoid of deeper meaning or social commentary of any kind. If Tony had been portrayed as a man battling alcoholism on one front and the M-I Complex on the other while becoming increasingly paranoid and reclusive, you'd have a point.
