Yeah, that's pretty bad. nuJurassic Park is objectively worse looking than the original 3.
>old is good
>new is bad
lmao
Uh the top one is actually CG plus puppetry so.....yeah
Who’s the puppet
The gate is a giant puppet, they pulled on big strings to make the doors move and used CG to cover up the strings.
Please tell me youre pretending to be retarded.
so....... what?
"yeah" isn't a point, wtf is your point?
>The gate is a giant puppet
kek
the American viewing audience
You misspelled China
You can literally go and still see the gate's concrete supports.
did china even exist in the 80s?
>first JP
>china somehow involved
You made a good point, i believe this too.
That's kind of the point of the film.
Jurassic Park was (movie) Hammond's labor of love. Jurassic World was InGen's hollow corporate imitation.
It's not exactly the way he described it, but it is a bigature isn't it? I don't think they built a big fucking 40 foot tall gate.
Does anyone in the industry still make and use models?
go back to your arthouse containment thread faggot
Somebody please, post the webm of the dino running away from the explosion like a 90s action hero, fucking made me lole.
>2 fucking JP threads on front page (both are about the first movie) for some reasons
what the fuck is going on
I chuckled
what about this?
>its bad on purpose guys
Stop huffing jenkem
i was in the first thread and saw the same image as OP has here and thoguht the same thing "soul v. soulless" and i guess someone else had the same idea and decided to make a thread about it.
The first one is the only good one, same as Jaws.
God what a beautiful image.
Oh im not arguing it, actually watched it again couple months ago and thoroughly enjoy it. It just feels weird that there are 2 randomly JP threads right now
They built a full size electric fence, they built a full size tree, they built a full size visitor center with full size dinosaur skeletons and a mezzanine level...why wouldn't they build a full size gate for the film? That's an easy job for a hollywood set building crew.
jesus christ
haha fucking embarrassing.
All sets and dinos in JP were life size. Even without knowing that you can tell by the obviously real fire in the scene. Even if it were miniture and for some reason they used "strings" to open the gate, you wouldn't need cgi to hide them.
man if somebody good with these thing can edit sanic into it
>hey, shall we get some decent real life dinosaur props that even a mid-budget theatre in Japan can afford? Or even better shall we make our own with our enormous budget?
>No, lets do that other thing
>what other thing?
>that thing that no one likes
>CGI?
>Yeah that's it
>when seth mcfarlane posts on Yea Forums
the most infuriating case of this gotta be the 2011 "prequel" The Thing
regardless of what you feel about the story of that movie, they actually made a video showcase all the cool as fuck actual aliens and gory props, then movie come out and it is all cgi
I want to slap the bastard who made all those decisions
IDK, I always thought it was a bigature for some reason. Did they use any scale models in Jurassic Park? It was ILM that did the effects wasn't it?
Based
the t-rex top half was animatronic for sure
No, it was all all life sized sets and the only effects were the cgi used to make the animatronics look better. There might have been an all cgi full body shot of brontosaur I dont remember exactly.
I'm 100% convinced that studios choose CGI over animatronics for two reasons:
A) They think it inherently looks better
B) They can change shit on the fly so they don't have to commit to shit (That's entirely why some movies are 90% green screen now)
>B) They can change shit on the fly so they don't have to commit to shit (That's entirely why some movies are 90% green screen now)
Good point.
They know it looks worse. Reason B) is true. Cgi is cheaper and more convenient.
A. is correct if you put in serious work and money into it, for giant cgi fest like marvel capeshit, most of the time they are not really stand out like a sore thumb. but of course we are talking about super huge budget movies that not applicable for every single movie
B. is simply just true, reshoot is a fucking nightmare for them. that superman vs batman reshoot when kevin already have to commit the mustache for MI and they had to cgi over it was a shit show
iirc the T Rex head going through the roof of the jeep the kids were in was animatronic and wasn’t actually supposed to break the glass which is why the kids looked genuinely terrified. Could be just a myth though
It entirely depends on how much money you throw at it and what you're trying to do. Something like Furiosa's arm is an example of good CGI.
Cheap CGI always looks like shit, especially with large scale things like dinosaurs. Not to mention things like cats where the CGI is fucking jarring when you could just throw some good makeup and shit at it.
Its just feels like they rely so heavily on reshoots instead of having a vision from the start.
That's just depressing. Movies have gotten really fucking bad in the last 15 years.
The biggest example of soul vs. soulless...
>Some people in this thread have never seen the behind-the-scenes footage of the Rex and Triceratops
The Rex is especially impressive though
Why didn't they use real dinosaurs in any of the films? Too hard to find competent handlers for them?
They got this asshole
>an actual truck, produced by a real-world auto manufacturer with a custom paint job and outfitted with custom hardware. you could imagine yourself riding in this, you can conceive of how it might smell, how the upholstery would feel, it helps your brain understand the setting as a real place
vs
>a magical orb, it exists to facilitate large computer animated sequences, you have never encountered such a thing in your life, nor will you ever, because it is an invention of fiction much like the dinosaurs themselves, but this additional level of disconnect compounds with countless others to create a completely forgettable, unremarkable experience.
lol its all fictional fag. I get your point but desu jurrasic park will always be on vhs for you. You had your experience of jp and the new one is for a new audience.
stop giving a fuck. Move on. go make your own films.
There will never be a more aesthetic vehicle than the Jurassic Park Explorers.
IDK why the Jeeps always got the bulk of the attention
How does the dinosaur know gas explodes
I walked the trail on Kauai where they had made this very gate. It was a real construction.
Obviously removed since then, but there was a remnant.
The Jeeps were featured in the "welcome to Jurassic Park" and chase scene, which are incredibly iconic. And Jeeps are easier to make replicas of. But I love the Explorers more. When I get enough money I'm making my own replica.
clever girl!
>vroom vroom
>im like in jurassic park
>I'm the doctor
>vroom vroom
>oh no dinosaurs might get me
jesus christ dude.
those explorers are great, i even tried to make the fence scene for a diorama project when I was in high school year ago
>create gyroball vehicles
>give retarded guests full control
>let them all loose in a safari area filled with animals
>expect everyone to behave nicely
This is a fucking disaster waiting to happen if it were real.
too bad i had a shitty paint hand
I get that it's probably cheaper, more efficient and less time consuming to add most of the special effects, background and all the dinosaurs in post production. But the movie loses alot of its authenticity and charm that way, and will never be a classic like the first films
Why is there one girl in a bikini?
Its faster first and foremost and not prone to a mistake making you start from scratch. These types of films are pushed put as fast as possible so they can keep making steady cash.
Thats pretty cool man.
Its the worst example of the practice but not the only one. They did the same thing for The Force Wokens.
there's a guy who lives near me who owns a replica of one of the jeeps. it's pretty legit. he drives it around all the time
I don't think there was any miniature work in JP. All life size models or cgi. Maybe some shots of the truck in the tree were miniature, but I don't think so, I believe that whole sequence was done full scale.
In the Lost World however, the boat running ashore at the port of san diego was miniature.
He paid attention in Chemistry class, didn't you read the books?
kino
Blue was shown to be intelligent and compassionate as fuck, I guess that's the reason you're supposed to know that
She smelt the gas.
fucking zoomers dont remember practical effects like me creampieing their mothers
>OY! You put a string on a door!? That makes it a puppet door!
this is your brain on turbo mode
>hot humid costa rica
>would you like to ride in the car with ac, that has windows that lower and has cover from the sun?
>or would you rather sit in a glass ball with no means of AC what so ever, no shade from the hot sun, no ventilation because you are in an enclosed orb and looks retarded to boot
you know i dont even hate gyrospheres entirely but it is just completely retarded compared to the Jurassic Tour
Would be perfect if you painted a trex head
The lower one can't be from a finished movie? Right? The lights are off, the textures look low resolution and the fire FX seem like copy pasted particle effect.
OLD: GOOD
BAD: NEW
pumping out soulless CG garbage is part of their larger plan to demoralize the goyim. they don't want to make movies with "soul" anymore because they do not want you to be mentally and spiritually nourished by the entertainment media you consume. they just want you to be a mindless NPC worker-consumer bee, so they can collect the honey, the output of your work. for a billionaire to fly in private jet and live in a mansion, he must have serfs to design and build those luxury items. we are all seen as fucking subhuman goyim cattle to them. the only solution now is to stop consuming. then from there, who knows. get ready for when the system collapses. could happen soon, could take another 20+ years. i don't know.
git gud or continue complaining like a niglet
they will reply: "turn your brain off and have sex"
Retarded reasoning
JP the lost world was unironically my fav movie when I was a kid just because the cars looked so fucking cool
Is that why there's a horrible blue tinge to everything? They made their movie look like shit, sound like shit and read like shit. Holy fuck that's genius!
That doesn't actually seem too bad to me, I have a monitor lizard, usually it's slow but if it sees food or gets spooked it's extremely fast, it has no regard for anything in it's path and just hurls itself in the direction it picked.
sexy work user see me after class ;-)
>B) They can change shit on the fly so they don't have to commit to shit (That's entirely why some movies are 90% green screen now)
This is the main reason, secondly they can outsource CG to 3rd world, wages for 3d modeling and CG are in freefall it's going to end up like 2d animation in japan. Why even bother trying when you're getting less than minimum wage to do CGI for some film that will gross $1b+.
Does your lizard know which chemical ingredients cause an explosion when mixed?
I think that's why that clip is silly
I MISS THE OLD DAYS WHY IS EVERYTHING SHIT NOW
Blame the artists. That light and shadow contrast makes it look like a videogame because thats basically what animators are now, imported talent from AAA game studios.
Thats awesome.
Wtf I feel like I remember this scene and chose to forget. Like my brain rejected it because it felt so surreal like a dream within the movie.
Many dangerous gases have a foul smelling component added in them so people will notice if there's a gas leak.
I dont like the hamster balls but I like the concept and thinking of how the tech would work. The amount of freeflying camera angles they did with it made it feel less realistic though.
what the fuck lmao? waht movie is this?
Based
>this smells like gas
is not the same as
>this smells like it's about to explode
Isnt it surreal? It feels like a parody or joke but the movie just keeps going with people running around looking scared dodging greenscreen monsters in what is now a comedy.
i always wondered about this scene, the dinosaur comes through the fence, right, but when the car tips down over it, it tumbles off a steep wall. am i missing something?
Based, when I was in grade school I attended a miniature building hobby workshop, my first build was the JP ford explorer.
Yeah, there's no ideas man or visionary man anymore. It's designed by committee based on several focus groups.
Look at the MCU crap for example, their actors still wear a costume but it's so cheap looking that it's automatically replaced with a 3D model in post based on the results from the focus groups.
This is something that's bugged me for YEARS.
In the books, this scene happens almost 1:1, except directly behind the fence is a moat, and a watch tower topples over in the storm, creating a bridge for the T-rex.
Makes a lot more sense.
What are you retards complaining of? This is fun as fuck.
>not calling it Nurassic Park
missed opportunity
>Does your lizard know which chemical ingredients cause an explosion when mixed?
>I think that's why that clip is silly
Depends if the sparking and gas leak started right that second. They're paranoid and hate new unexpected things.
>What are you retards complaining of? This is fun as fuck.
why would they open the door to the giant dinosaur cage?
cringe
this scene was all CGI, as well as the scene where they first see the brachiasaurus and a couple of other dino's, but I think they're the only ones
>all those quick cuts
christ
That's not an argument
raptor knows what flammable gas is?
>just survived a flaming volcano
Of course it would after smelling that inferno of Isla Nublar
no but it successfully dehumanizes you and your shitty opinion
I prefer South Park
>Lets go check this guy out, Murphy. But lets use that one thing that we never normally use
>Serg?
>You know, that thing that begins with R?
>Restraint?
>Right, right! Restraint!
Go watch Heavy Rotation
>reddit meme is valid argument
today I learn that petroleum smells the same as molten lava
>old
>washed out
>gray and lacks saturation
>bad cinematography
>SOULLLLLL
What the everliving fuck is this retarded shit??
Yes it is. You're a stupid NPC consumerbot.
Don't listen to the cringe cucks, that goal's based af. Literally saving up for a 92-94 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Edition as we speak to convert into a #12 replica.
Good luck if you seriously get into to converting that Explorer, the brush guard and taillight guards are gonna take some serious search time to find.
she's a Clevergirl.
>not because of the Stegosaurus river scene
Fuck me, I gotta watch this movie again just for that scene. It's like all those dinos by the river scenes in paleoart I love.
>one looks like from a cheap tv show set
>other looks from a cheap tv show cgi
what is your point?
It's all the argument your assertion merited. Faggot.
I'm pissed that they literally did nothing to showcase these cars in the movie aside from getting destroyed.
Stupid zoomer. The CGI in the original JP from fucking 1993 looks better than most CGI in the past ten years.
This isn’t even an old versus new thing. Studios keep cutting corners with CGI while simultaneously flexing their software. But half the time it ends up backfiring and we end up with garbage like the new gate in OP’s example. CGI needs to be reserved for the impossible. Something like a gate can 100% be done practically.
brontosaur isn't a real dinosaur. it's literally a made up dino. spread the word.
Pajeets.
>When the "worst" film of the franchise from 18 fucking years ago has better CGI than both current World movies
Fucking YIKES.
she was a slut
anons like yourself make this place still worth coming to. keep it up user, your doing gods work.
Post the indoraptor winking to the camera.
Nice job on that lighting. For real.
>lets argue over completely subjective things so I can't lose
It looks so good
This was from 1993. Now compare that to fucking capeshit now.
Let's not forget their laughable model helicopter. I lol'd out loud in the theater when I saw it. Got dirty looks. No fucks given. If you're not also laughing you're what's wrong with movies today.
>oh you want to see some dinosaurs? Well first get in this ball that's designed so that the windows you're looking out of will also roll over all the mud, rocks and dinosaur shit in the enclosure, covering it and scratching it so you can't see shit
That thing doesn't even work as a concept. I just don't understand how it became a thing.
I have a better question. Why is there only one girl in bikini?
They will never make a movie this good ever again.
>Like my brain rejected it because it felt so surreal like a dream within the movie.
Wake up, Alan
You're not that user who bought the power button thing you gotta pump just because you liked the sound it makes in the movie, are you?
because it looks neato visually to brain-turned-offs.
I can hear it.
This is the best looking shot of a dinosaur in all the 5 movies.
Can you imagine what effect this scene had on 6yo me?
Based Rainmaker
Notice how the dino gets simple bloodsmears on it, showing it got wounded? That doesn't even happen any more. I'm not sure if it even happened in the third one, since the T-Rex bit the fish-eaters neck and it did nothing to wound it. I can't remember if there's any other instance in that one where a dino actually gets wounded.
The thing is, they are COMPLETELY aware that they're making inferior shit. Think to the ending of World, when the old t-rex is let loose and fights the indominus. There is no set up, but it is clear from the moment that trex walks out who the protagonist in the fight is, who is SUPPOSED to win. it's clear because we all know, the audience and the filmmakers, that we're just enduring derivative inferior garbage that we wish was the old stuff.
Here's something for you.
I'll tell you what it did to me. I started imitating the roar because of how cool it sounded. I ate all my food the same way Rexie ate Gennaro. Chomping down and shaking it to "death".
Holy shit, you're awakened my memories. I did similar shit too. I remember chasing my friends playing velociraptor. The were saying how good my impersonation is.
too bad that pic is a load of shit.
CGI is not the issue here retards
it's about lighting mostly
Sweet.
But the lightning is cgi too
>no explanation why
How unusual on this site.
Why? It explains why there is a height elevation difference in that section of the park.
because if you watch the scene, the jeep doesn't get pushed to the left, it literally gets pushed to where the trex ripped through the fence. Also, you can see to the left and the right when they're hanging on the wall and you don't see a wall indicating a higher level.
no it doesn't look good, look at the dinosaur being eaten
Take off your nostalgia glasses, the original looks very cheap
here we go...
>it literally gets pushed to where the trex ripped through the fence
It seems to be a bit of a movie mistake still, but after just watching it to find out exactly where the car goes down you are wrong.
It gets spun and then off where it is, which is more where the goat feeding should be, but not where the t.rex broke free.
It is, Zoomer
>zoom is zoom
>zoom is zoom
Zooming my Zoom Zoom
I love JP threads. Fuck World movies though.
>noisy in first scenes
>silent ninja the next
World was at least forgivable to a degree.
Fallen Kingdom is absolute shit-sucking garbage. I'm still fucking mad.
>OLD GOOD NEW BAD
it's true though
Your subjective interpretation is not fact.
it wasn't even a JP movie, it was more fast and furious.
Objective fact is fact though. The zoomers are human cancer.
You're a zoomer basedchugging faggot and that's a fact
Have sex, cope, dilate, sniff Sneed's scrotum and then kys
At least it didn't stalk the cast like a fucking slasher villain, like the Spino did. God damn was that retarded.
>"No!"
Don't forget how the Hobbit movies redesigned Azog and his son like three times over and made stuff they shot with earlier versions into subordinate orcs.
Brontosaurus has been legit again for four years now.
do you live in connecticut
What's next? Pluto is a planet?
You're thinking of the sick triceratops.
original Smaug was its long snake with 4 legs + 2 wings quickly changed him because fuck the book
LOLE
Of course silly me, if a racoon can understand nuclear fusion of course a velociraptor can understand flammable gasses.
Bruh
Sick
