like at all?
also is it correct to say xfiles was like the "mainstream" twin peaks once that show fucked up because the cast had a 3sum or some thing.

I never understood it's popularity. It wasn't that original, i think maybe it just happened to come along at a time when audiences were looking for something to obsess about and hype.
you probably have never finished a episode lets be honest or are even aware its a anthology show.
can some one just tell me the remaster is flawed in some way to make me feel better.
the remaster of seasons1-4 zooms in some scenes not shot with 16:9 in mind to avoid showing crew this results in you seeing less. so the 4:3 dvd versions of thous seasons are still superior. AFIK the best DVD version has 5+ in 16:9 with possibly still zoom issues.
this probably unironically means the best version of the Xfiles is a early VHS release.
X-Files ends when David steps down as lead. Everything else is fanfiction.
First four seasons only
wait wtf thou.
he is on cover of 8/9/10/11
so he just cameos in these? what % of appearance are we talking compared to before that.
yeah i think he just cameos in 8 and 9, and its only a handful of episodes. although the season 9 finale is the mulder show again (though its an awful episode)
10 and 11 he's back in the lead but the reboot is pretty much not worth watching whatsoever, except for maybe the weremonster ep.
is it like Twin peaks season3 teir bad like the director actually has dementia or just like boring and not actually mentally painful to watch.
The s11 darin morgan episode is also good (The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat).
Don't you dare forget the gem that was Familiar
so basically watch 1-7 and maybe watch the new shit.
I heard before like 1-5 or 1-6 was best whats the argument there what gets worse. obviously season6 they switched where they filmed it.. but I mean what was going on in regards to actual enjoyment/script
what about the spin off shows or in universe other shows/films
just like do the x files first then that later or is there any tie ins.
like with twin peaks for example I really wish I had watched blue velvet after ep3-4 or some thing. and really wish I watched fire walk with me before season3.
yeah these are both fine i suppose. I also really enjoyed Rm994rijqf9iwefpdkjf or w.e but I'd understand if that doesn't resonate with everyone
It's been a while since I last watched the X-files but S7 was an unredeemable dumpster fire from the start, this is what i remember mostly about the show.
7 isn't that bad. Hungry, the Goldberg Variation, Hollywood A.D. and X-Cops are all good.
how bad is 8/9
nearly unwatchable.
i would say of Season 8, Redrum and Medusa are maybe worth watching.
Of Season 9, maybe John Doe, Audrey Pauley, Jump the Shark and Sunshine Days
but honestly it might not be worth the bother unless you're already a fan
you would have watched 160 episodes by that point so you will obviously be a fan.
well if you've watched EVERY episode of 1-7 you might as well finish out the series
You should probably watch X files on an episode basis rather than season
The overarching story is shit and get shittier as the series goes on. Early seasons are also not great, especially season one. Don't trust anyone who actually considers season one good.
Find a viewing guide and watch the good stuff
but even 1-4 is a massive amount its way more than 5-8
this
you sound like a pleb with no imagination who only likes simple clear plots with no white space.
I stopped watching after season 1-5 and the first movie. Seemed like a good way to end it. I didn't want to watch without the uber-comfy BC locations.
I'm only suggesting things because the episodes vary wildly in quality and the series is pretty episodic overall. There's no real need to subject yourself to the worse ones. I wouldn't want to rewatch most of it.
You mean the HD remaster? The framing is all fucked up in 16:9, they say it was shot thinking of the 16:9 ratio, but all the shots look like they're cut short on top and bottom.
fuck you season 1 is campkino
the 2011 dvd has season 1-4 in 4:3 and rest in 16:9
I assume the cinematographers memories are just old and fuzzy and only 1999+ (ie season5+) was shot with 16:9 in mind.
can I get a confirmation the 5+ remasters are not zoomed in a miss stuff like 1-4 remasters?
DESU even 2011 1-4 in 4:3 framing looks pretty bad I think the cinematographer is just incompetent in general
nigga wat
Early X-Files has some god-tier cinematography.
Surely you aren't one of those turboplebs who think the cinematographer does the framing, r-right?
they literally do unless the 2011 4:3 1-4 isn't the original
like why would they release some thing in 4:3 in 2011 unless it was the original.
the cinematographer literally points the camera you dumb cunt.
Yes, they're all worth watching.
>the cinematographer literally points the camera you dumb cunt.
oh no it's retarded
the problem isn't the artistry of the shots its that the FOV is fucking low is this show literally the call of duty of tv.
> "Relations between the cinematographer and director vary; in some instances the director will allow the cinematographer complete independence; in others, the director allows little to none, even going so far as to specify exact camera placement and lens selection. Such a level of involvement is not common once the director and cinematographer have become comfortable with each other; the director will typically convey to the cinematographer what is wanted from a scene visually, and allow the cinematographer latitude in achieving that effect. "
I guess im not used to watching old shows designed to be viewed on 260/480p screens I suppose they just zoom every thing the fuck in because it wouldn't be possible otherwise. regardless the show does have a very closeup look so obviously any zooming in to make it 16:9 when there is stuff off the side of the film will look extra bad on old shows.
regardless I still want to know if 5+ has zoom problems 16:9 was fairly standard then or at least the camera people would have TVs like that at home in 2000 so would have cared about it more.
well snap, turns out wikipedia or whatever knows better than me having actually been at a shitload of actual shoots.
larp more
hanging out with people with asperations of being "a great director" that do every thing them self is not actual real experience.
directors are glorified producers/managers in real life.
the reason it got popular was via it being the only noir in the 90s by the 2000s dark and gritty took hold but our social ideals changed from successfully suave 80s man to chads looking like teir1 operators and single female lawyers changed to sex magic women/witches. by the time dark broody themes was used again sex was the "edgy" theme and that is what lead to game of thrones/handmaids etc.
people who dismiss it as just supernatural or conspiracy theorist bait are wrong conspiracy theorists really only took off after 2003 invasion of Iraq. its not a old phenomenon at all. not even the people that was interested in alien stories before 2003 actually believed in them.
>once that show fucked up because the cast had a 3sum or some thing.
Can you eloborate or peovide a source for these claims? Did Kyle and Donna's actress hook up with someone else?
This was back in Duchovny's "sex addict" days when he was doing a lot of E. Apparently they had a cast party and Gillian Anderson had too much to drink and passed out in one of the bedrooms and when she came to Duchovny was next to her on the bed slamming balls deep into some teenage extra. Naturally Gillian freaked the fuck out.
DOES any one know if Season5 onwards has cropping problems or not.
No. Treat Season 6 like the final season, and you'll only have fond memories. It genuinely turns to shit by prolonging the lore into some "super soldier" bullshit after Duchovny leaves. The Alien Rebels incinerate the Majestic Consortium, that's it. Case closed.
There's some interesting standalones (like says), but take them on a case-by-case basis.
Other recommendations:
>stop watching Battlestar Galactica after the New Caprica episodes, except for "Razor"
>don't watch the final season of Breaking Bad at all
Yeah but there's a giant shift at, I forget, season 6 or 7 when they shifted production from vancouver to LA and from that point it's no longer X-Files.
He’s in most of Season 8, which is also the best season of The X-Files and ends the series perfectly. They ruined it with S9 and that shitty film.
Season 10 was so shit I haven’t even bothered watching 11.
>Season 8, which is also the best season of The X-Files
they shifted at start of season6
Either after 4 or 5, I forget
some interesting observations here, is there some blog or yt channel that talks about movies and tv shows adapting to different social/political climates but without being either super pretentious or sjw fuck drumpf garbage?
might start one im pretty smart
DOESU ANY ONE KNOW?
What fucking cropping problems are you talking about?
I have nothing to contribute except posting Clarkson's "hair"
>I never understood it's popularity
You watched it in 90's? Sure, it wasn' the first series about all things paranormal but it hit the spot. The first seasons had great episodes overall even known the fact that they had over 20/season. X-files inspired lots of other shows like Profiler and Pretender to start with, rpg's etc. Great actors and mythos.
Of course, the best seasons were 1-5, just like in most shows actually. Anyone I knew wasn't that thrilled about the last seasons anyway. The great arch became stretched.
>Early seasons are also not great, especially season one
season one is the best season of the series
>season one is the best season of the series
Yeah, because Space was such a great episode.
I love the show, but that user that suggested to watch it by episode instead of season was right. When the show misses it misses hard. Like any episode with animals. Viewing guide would be a good way to get into it now.
>Quentin Tarantino was originally signed to direct "Never Again" in season 4
no i dont think so
>Season 7
Has more all time great episodes than maybe any other season. But the trade off is that it's also got the most all time awful episodes too.
>Season 8 and 9
Worth giving a shot. I like the Dogget character and he earns his place. Surprisingly liked the Annabeth Gish character as well. It may feel repetitive at this point, though.
The seasons aren't necessarily shit as they are just kind of standard to mediocre. They never again reach the highs of some of the great seasons.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Zoomers don’t grasp atmospheric shows or movies. Every second has to be filled with talking or CGI shit.
X Files especially in the early seasons had great long sequences of no talking but only Mark Snow’s atmospheric score.
For example

The music is amazing.
>its not a old phenomenon at all. not even the people that was interested in alien stories before 2003 actually believed in them.
bullshit. There were tons of alien movies and shows in the 70s and 80s that piqued interest. Magazines too.
The research seems to indicate that attention spans are getting less and less as technology advances and the availability of stimuli at all times leads people to have a lower and lower tolerance for boredom.
I was watching a great film called Run Silent, Run Deep (1958, Clark Gable and Burt Lanchaster) the other day and I realized it could never be made today. It has great pacing but only three real action scenes in it and the rest of the film is dedicated to character development or building suspense. Hollywood would never make that film today, they could never imagine a war film with so little action in it.
Huh. I still have a number of those.
Stupid
It was pulp entertainment then thou 2003 and WMD and 911 stuff after WMD is what made people take things seriously
Even the JFK theorist before 2003 just did it for fun they knew it didn't matter 2003 changed that
The Watergate stuff was hippie antifa stuff it wasn't conspiracy theorist they hated it and liked Nixon
The mid-late 90s Internet was full of conspiracy theories. I don't know how many people believed them, but they were there. Art Bell was also really popular.
>le you just don't understand it argument
it was joke and entertainment based then
before 2003 it was all considered fanfic even at the conventions
after WMD and 911 was a inside job things changed and then the community became insain lonely people.
