Hey can you make me a sandwich?
This symbolism is easy to miss if you're a novice viewer. Each member of the Fesh Pince of Blair represents a food group. The classic example is Will representing the Fruit. He relates his illicit gay relationship with an older many, and famously states "he was minding his DAMN business eating some DAMN fruit".
The rest of the family is much easier to miss if one isn't paying attention. Uncle Phil is the carbohydrates, the basic foundation, the "bread"winner of the family - but also the source of fat. Hillary represents the meat: her legs and thighs are prominently on display, and Will's later monologue about Chicken and Winnigish only reinforces these themes. A leg in one hand indeed.
Ashley is the vegetables, never really seen; she has nothing to offer a carb and meat-based African-American patriarchal family. Viv is the spice, which encourages Uncle Phil's obesity.
And this brings us back to Carlton, the dairy. Why do you think his jokes are always so cheesy? His character is a representation of the most decadent, yet embarrassing of the food groups, the desired yet forbidden.
When Carlton says "make me a sandwich", he doesn't want a sandwich - he wants to be made INTO one. Think back to the themes that we just covered.
That's right. "Make me a sandwich" is a euphemism for Carlton's repressed desires to have a threesome with Hillary and Uncle Phil. This forbidden marriage of meat, cheese, and bread can never truly exist, and so we come to the final actor, who so eloquently states: "No!"
What is Geoffrey, then? He is not a family member. So he represents the food group that is the lack of food - hunger, and starvation. Hence his brief role as a waiter where he never gets to serve any food. "No!" is not just the rejection of Carlton's repressed sexual desires, it's also a commentary on the Malthusian struggle of man to feed himself in an entropic that would see him waste away. "Find Geoffrey, and find Geoffrey"- forever. That is the destiny of man.
