>have a literally perfect life
>every hot girl throws herself at him

What do you do when you have everything?

Depression is a bitch. Whatever you do your brain will remind you your failures

There is no such thing as perfection and humans are biologically designed to be unhappy as a survival mechanism.

If you're complacent you don't evolve.

>What did you ever do that was so bad?
>I broke all my vows. I scandalized my child. I took another man's name and made...nothing of it.

He wanted to be loved unconditionally instead of transactionally.

Was Don ever "unhappy"? He had his moments, but I never considered his character to be depressed.

if you think Don does things because he's "unhappy" then you're a brainlet and didn't get the show.
and you should also kys

OH GOD IM CUMMING AAHHHHHHH UGHHHHH IT FEELS SO GOOOOOOD! MY MAN NECTAR! OH FUCK YEAHHHHHHHH AAAAAAAAAAA MY DICK JUICE! AAAAAA HNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG OH MY DUDE GOO IS SPRAYING EVERY WHERE! WOWIE ZOWIE FUCK FUCK FUCK OOOOOOFFFFF....... zzzz....... zzzzzzz......

When he was on indefinite leave.

Explain then smartass

Impossible. Not even your own mother loves you unconditionally. It's exactly because you're her own offspring she loves you under that condition.

He accidentally killed a guy and took the opportunity to steal his identity. He lived with that constant shame and guilt that he just couldn't get over

>show is called Mad Men
>Expect the men to be happy
user, I don’t know what to tell you...

thats the thing, it's inexplicable. That's what makes him a good character. I personally think that he has a permanent existential crisis that is constantly pressured by the weight of his secretes. Who really is Don Draper?

Not true. Anna Draper loves him unconditionally despite him stealing her husband’s identity.

this. there is no don draper. don draper is what dick wants to be but ultimately doesn't exists. like his idealized ads (the weel for example)
he creates a picture perfect life (betty was a model) like you would see in an ad, but deep down he remains just the same person. he longs for acceptance for who he really is
youtu.be/aY-HR88uPBU

he's also not longing for love, which other anons said but acceptance. whenever he reveals who he really is he gets punished, see the divorce or the hershey's pitch

What about Anna? She doesn't punish him

mad men more like sad men ahahah

She was far away. He had to hide his true self from everyone else. Also he snapped after she died

It was a lie. He stole another man's name and he built a life that was based on what other people considered to be successful. His relationships with women were all based on sex which he can't enjoy because he was raped as a teenager. The only women he gets along with are those that he won't have sex with. Of course, it wasn't all bad as he enjoyed his work and had a legitimate friend in Roger. But his first instinct when things went sour was to run away.

Thank you Pedro

Not exactly. iirc he tells Anna that his and Don's identity got 'mixed up' which although is technically true, he definitely didn't tell her that he intentionally stole Don's identity. He made it sound like it was a mistake and he just went along with it, which isn't the truth. The only woman to love him unconditionally and he probably felt like he didn't deserve it

>raped as a teenager
What ? Which episode !?

wait wait WAIT guys ! Holy shit..do you..you don't think that this was the point of his character, right? WOAH !

incel larping as a chad without going through the upbringing that makes a chad, aka a fraud. don could only be happy being a degenerate even if he idealized the perfect american dream like trad anons. the irony is these trad anons watch porn all day and drink steel reserve. they too would still be unhappy if they had don's life.

I’m about half way through the second season and it’s pretty clear that they are making him out to be a sociopath type. He constantly says that he feels nothing.

He's no sociopath, because he shows feelings on numerous occasions.

It's not that Don doesn't have everything he wants, he does, but it doesn't satisfy him. He's chasing something he will never have because all the love and respect of everyone around you can't fill the hole that not being able to love yourself leaves.

He was living a lie.

People with fucked up childhoods never completely learn to deal with shit. Something goes wrong with their developmental processes and there's always some dysfunction waiting to emerge ever under ideal circumstances. Don was a well-written example of a permanently damaged person.

>thats the thing, it's inexplicable. That's what makes him a good character.
bottomless pit IQ

Mad Men was a shitty soap opera for women with overblown production values
Women like handsome selfish dickheads who treat people like shit while wallowing in self pity because it allows them to indulge in the illusion of empathy while not having to deal with anyone who has actually real problems.

Another kino clip

youtube.com/watch?v=VDJIFu_WSaE

Yep, this guy knows a lot about women and empathy!

lol why'd he hug him, what a fag

Because Leonard is an anagram for Real Don

enjoy having everything

be grateful and stop being a faggot?

Some whore at the place he grew up with. I mean it wasn't violent or anything but she kind of forced herself on him. He got beaten when they found out.

He feels things despite his persona.

He didn't except Jesus Christ as his savior (at least as of the point I have watched up to so far)

Wasn't his mother was a prostitute?

kino scene, depression is a bitch

do you even english?
yes she was, his whole upbringing was fucked up
youtu.be/DhYTRYjPWdk

I wonder who had the most tragic backstory in MM

>except

Pray for a dictionary lmao

Protect it.

if you watch season 1 and season 2 and then skip to season 7 you get all you need to get about Don's character and skip all the soap opera shit

this sounds like something written by an unironic 12 year old joker fanboy

season 1 is objectivly shit

This. One of the prostitutes in the whorehouse he grew up in forced him to fuck her. Then when his uncle and stepmom found out they kicked the prostitute out of the house and beat up him.

I never thought he was unhappy. He just seemed to have bunch of family problems that got progressively worse. It all started with the fake identity fucking up with his brain, him thinking his whole life is artificial and failing to appreciate the family he had created.

kino

true but it sets up the character, they kind of lose themselves and just go on and on but really all the points that are to be made have been made very soon into the show and then you have to wait for their resolution (which is KINO no denying)

I know this isn't the main argument of the thread but I still don't get how he could fuck the Hilton Hotels ad.
He asked you the moon, just put a fucking hotel on the moon

Attached: CgwEpIXU4AEuscu.jpg (1100x550, 112K)

Because the whole series is their clients wanting fucking stupid ads that don’t work or make sense.

>they don't look up when I sit down

Attached: 1562260133865.jpg (629x505, 33K)

He was calling him hundreds of times with a new idea every time, how was he supposed to know which one he really wanted?

Dons whole problem was that he was so much of a Chad he couldn't even enjoy life anymore, with the whole world in his hand everything was too easy and as a natural born hard worker he had nothing to work towards anymore. It's not realistic cuz normal people have faults but Don was too perfect so authors limited imagination could only give him a debuff in form of a non existant mental ilness

Attached: cXDAzWO.jpg (696x504, 105K)

He hated and lied to himself. until the finale

I think the closest to an explanation is he was constantly haunted by the past he ran away from.

People with antisocial personality disorder still "feel" things, they just have a harder time managing their impulses and their relationships with guilt.

Pop simulacrum psychiatry bullshit has infested the mainstream

don lived his live with a mantra of "never looking back" and he told this to multiple people but he could never really believe it himself
he couldn't ever truly move on from the things that had happened to him and every time he had an opportunity to he ran away from it

Underrated

The writing on this show was so fucking good

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedonic_treadmill

He wouldn't be successful then

fuck your hot daughter?

They just wanted to make it look like the successful white man isn't happy. They hate white men being successful.

>He asked you the moon, just put a fucking hotel on the moon
A key point to Don's character is he mixes the personal with business and it screws things up. He fucked Rachel Menken, a client. He fucked Bobbi Barrett, a woman married to talent his agency had hired. He had a personal/business relationship with Connie Hilton. He married his secretary after fucking another one. Hershey's. Jaguar.
Don's great strength is the emotional investment he brings to the ad-making process, but it also makes him pretty unstable.
