Not to defend Lucas but I really think the angle he was going for was to portray a civilized and political galaxy, the polar opposite of the ruthless planet-exploding one in the OT. He wanted to show how complacency and egotism with your own perfect system can ultimately lead to someone easily slipping into your ranks and bring the whole stack of cards crashing down. The problem was he focused too much on it, without the subtle filmmaking ability of letting the audience know that's what he was doing. It was just non-stop politics and fucking midichlorians.

The prequels have derined star wars a lot more than the originals ever did.

The Clone wars show, Lightsaber duels, Coruscant and Naboo, Jedi vs Sith, Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Knight and Academy, Battlefront 2 etc etc.

Without the prequels SW would have remained a shitty cliche of rebels and muh bad evil Empire.

the thing that gets me is, Lucas apparently had drafts early ideas and outlines story for most of anikins back story from way back before empire and jedi, then he suddenly starts his TPM script in 1994 or something? Why did he not have most of it written at least in his head? if its his baby? and he was always gonna do anikins early life, then with episode 2 and 3 it all seems so rushed.

I heard that lucas wanted to make the pequels much more adult orientated, but rick the prick and the movie company wanted kids/toys/comics, they basically remade jedi and followed the same merch cash cow plan.

The only things I disliked about the prequels was kid anakin and cgi yoda lightsaber fights

EU wasn't part of George's ideas or world, sure it was canon but George's input was above the eu stuff.

They are not good films but they took a risk at something. They expanded on the universe and told a political story.
No simple good rebels and evil empire.
What if the government that is so good is infiltrated and currupted from within? What if the jedi's teachings were the downfall of them?
Too bad the story was told by an autist director who had no idea on how to write good dialogue.
