I watched it until the season where Elena becomes a vampire. At that the show had gone full retard. The love triangle was also milked to a ridiculous degree later on. Anyway, Alaric was the best character and Katherine was a surprisingly great villain.

It was a guilty pleasure in season 1, but it got worse as time went on, and the love triangle is shit. I watched until like the last or one before last season and just stopped mid season and regreted the time I wasted watching the show(I marathoned it).
