I don't understand the hate, William Shatner was great as Kirk. The character was exactly what it needed to be in TOS because of his acting, and Shatner sold the struggles and personal conflicts Kirk went through in the movies

The hate is a loud, insignificant minority. Shatner played the iconic role perfectly which is why he is so famous and popular. If Shatner were so lousy, then Jeffrey Hunter (Christopher Pike from "The Cage") would be far better remembered by people who only know Star Trek casually.

Who hates Shatner? Kirk is still beloved after all this time

Anyone that hates Captain Kirk is a fag.

One my earliest memories is my dad watching the original Star Trek and I asked him why was Captain Kirk kissing all these girls. He told me “because he’s The Captain.”

The real reason Kirk is such a ladykiller is because he can't fuck his one true love, The Enterprise.

It's just zoomers or people that have never seen the show, and get all their knowledge of Shatner from parody and referencial osmosis. His eulogy for Spock in WoK is so convincingly acted that it always gets me misty eyed.

youtube.com/watch?v=4ErkeFA-QWk

Hi, Bill.

shatner was more than could be expected for this kind of show

Shatner is only hated for his choices post TOS.

And rightly so.

>I don't understand the hate

Lol what hate? It's one of the most iconic and beloved tv performances of all time. Fucking zoomers I swear.

How the hell does Shatner looks so WASP/Germanic despite all four of his grandparents being Jewish?

kirk > picard

Haven't watched TOS but keep hearing how Kirk was always being possessed or infected with stuff, hence why Shatner had to go so over the top a lot of the times.

Redpill me on the claims he has a massive ego.

I thought people mostly just thought Shatner was a jerk. Kirk is a good character.

>thinking shatner = kirk
The Captains documentary definitively show Shatner is clown
Kirk okay but Shatner dumb af

No i'm not

he made 5 albums, each one a laughing stock yet he will insist they are just too deep for people to understand

Bill everyone knows you dumb af

Your post got ignored because you used the word zoomer way to early in the paragraph btw . Everyone just glossed over it

No one hates him though? He's just been parodied half a million times because he's a cultural icon.

I love that shit though

fuck off will

I hate Jews and Shatner is based. That says something.

Bill if you're here reply to my tweet

He's lurking the Moner threads.

pretty sure every single trek captain was a shakespearian actor.
Kirk was great. Lewis and clark style adventure.
Spock and kirk.
Yeah dog.

which people who do modern shakespeare adaptations put more trek captains in their work.

William Shatner is the Jason David Frank of Star Trek.

femnists hate shatner

I'm someone who thought Star Trek was for nerds and shit. Never had any interest in it. It looked stupid. Probably because all the media making fun of nerds back in the day. I saw ToS for the first time last year. And Captain Kirk, is literally, what it means to be a man. I haven't seen a character like that, EVER. I understand right away why people say our generation sucks. Fuck.

Kirk's character is so good. I could give two fucks about the other Star Trek's. Picard might as well be a sissy to me.

Only seen some of TNG and not TOS. What's great about Kirk, and what did the Pine version fuck up about the character?

At this point I want to start getting copypastas about Shatner going in the same vain as the Warwick Davis ones to see if he bites.

Where are you seeing hate for him? The closest thing I've seen is parodies of his distinct delivery style but that's not hate.

I saw him in an episode of fresh prince of bel air the other day. Didn't know who he was until I googled him. Never watched star trek before...and yes. I'm a zoomer.

This is canon

Attached: KIRK_IS_A_JERK.jpg (332x394, 19K)

He would love it

Everyone with a functioning brain and cock knows that Kirk>Picard

I've heard he did have a huge ego and liked to throw his weight around on set, and a lot of the other actors weren't fans of him. He mellowed out later in age and patched things up with most of them, except those who were huge pricks themselves like Takei. It sounds like he was the kind of guy who thought he was humble and friendly and everyones friend, but was incapable of self reflection. When he got older he got a bit introspective and a lot more humble and self deprecating.

Hell, look at Patrick Stuart. Used to be a quintessential stuck up Shakespearean actor, now does a voice on American Dad for fun.

ayyy it me

This is obviously disinformation.

Pine was alternate universe kirk.
Its like asking who the better kirk was
starfleet kirk or pirate universe kirk?

Kirk was the quintessential pulp space explorer. Tough, smart, weighed options and constantly tried to make the right call.

Pine was fine in the 3rd movie, where he was the most Kirk-like, but for the most part Kirk in the show is a by the book military officer. He's not really a playboy or a joker or someone who goes off half cocked and makes wacky quips when he messes things up. He has a sense of good humor and is friendly with his crew, but for the most part he's all about discipline. Movies were far, far from that.

Willy S. is a legend and comprised the backbone that allowed Star Trek to succeed as a TV show and grow into a storied franchise, Spock doesn't work in a vacuum
If you're seeing this Bill, you're a legend and I liked you in Airplane 2

Yes, I recall 2009 basically being beaten up and humiliated the whole thing but rising above it in spite of all that and using charm and raw intelligence alone. Basically made him a massive underdog. As someone who isn't a Trekkie does it fall into the whole 'humanity fuck yeah' shit where humans always rise to the top in spite of not being the most intelligent, physically powerful, etc.? I get that vibe desu

We just don't have the heart to pick an internet fight with you, Bill. We love you too much.

I'd love to kick William Shatner in the testicles. Just take a few steps run up then catch him with the full force of my steel capped toe under his groin, send that decrepit obsese faggot staggering backwards through the air.

As he lies on the floor, coughing and wheezing and chocking on his own vomit, his scrotum a mangled mess of blood and pulp barely attached to the rest of his groin, I stand over him and laugh wickedly. He looks up at me in fear and pain, his eyes searching, begging me for mercy in his weird cadence. He finds none. I raise my boot then stomp down, squashing his balls like overripe grapes and finally ending his pathetic lineage.

I heard that Nimoy cut ties with Shatner like year before he died or was that just rumor?

You're drunk and you're ruining this thread.

Shatner was superb in the first two seasons. He did get erratic and over the top in the third season because he over compensating for the largely shitty scripts and drastically slashed budget

Those albums are kino.

I know I'm supposed to hate VF, but I kind of like him.

No they weren't, I don't even use Yea Forums anymore

Stop pretending to be me.

Brilliant when white men were ok

Who the fuck hates Bill Shatner? Like Orson Welles as Charles Kane, or Clint Eastwood as The Man with No Name, Bill Shatner made James T Kirk his own, and now no one else can ever replace him.

Fuck off Takei, don't you have a little Filipino boy to molest?

Double dumbass on all Bill haters! He's a fine actor.

Redpill me on Takei, this Filipino thing, and his relationship with Shatner?

Shatner's Jewish. Not sure if that makes him white or not to you. He's basically one of those guys those Nazi maniacs would parade as an ideal Aryan without realising the irony of the situation, i.e. another Werner Goldberg.

Shatner said he quit browsing Yea Forums because of people impersonating him on here

I never said that.

Sad as fuck.

A legendary character, played well by Shatner. Even later on, ST2, 3 and 6 are some of his best performances. Directors had to wear him down with more and more takes until he dropped the overacting and just became Kirk.

Takei always struck me as a bitter faggot who wished he was the leading man and not Shatner. He was even hung up on his side-character's rank and wanted him promoted to captain in ST2 and was pissed that Shatner 'sabotaged' the take.

He stopped talking to him about five years before; as Nimoy had refused to take part in a documentary of Shatner's, but Shatner used a convention appearance of Nimoy in the documentary anyway without his consent. They did a few interviews together, but never spoke off-camera.

BILL, I KNOW YOU"RE IN HERE

YOU'RE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND

Shatner as Kirk is one of the best parts of TOS
almost everyone older I know who watched the show when they were younger remembers him fondly
millennials and zoomers are Picard fanboys mostly

ok shatner

Hi Bill!

You're the man, Bill.

>The real reason Kirk is such a ladykiller is because he can't fuck his one true love, The Enterprise.

He would if he could...

Jeffrey Hunter and the original cast would have been astounding, but Hunter up and got himself killed, and the executives wanted the show a bit lighter and more westerny.
So we got Shatner and cast members "lite". So it was a good show, but imagine how great it could have been...

Attached: star-trek-pilot-1.jpg (745x559, 68K)

I think it works well enough when you keep in mind that it was supposed to be young and dumb kirk with room to grow and develop. Like how Picard was canonically a horny hothead who got into stupid fights as a young man

And on that day I will mourn.

Fuck off, it was a perfect show.

Takei has been a lifelong faggot, was implicated in a scandal involving underage boys, had his family put in Jail by FDR during the Japanese Internment in the 40's but still defends him as a good president, and has been feuding with Bill for nearly 50 years, going so far as to refuse to shake Bill's hand at any joint con appearences and refusing to attend Nimoy's funeral if Bill was there.

>Here's to you, lads.

Funny because by 1960s standards Star Trek was ultra liberal.

Hell most of America didn't even accept women working out of the house.

San Francisco living, you eventually become bitchy faggot

based gay samurai

Oh, I thought they were close friends based on Nimoy being Shatner's best man one time and Shatner saying Nimoy was like a brother after he died and appearing in the For the Love of Spock documentary.

We'll never get another captain like Kirk

Pine has done an amazing job. He did it his way. I love Shatner but Pine did the impossible.

Well that is just sad. Was there a reason why Nimoy didn't want to appear on documentary?

Daily reminder that Shatner ruined Reddit, and he is probably working behind the scenes to ruin Yea Forums as well.

Attached: Shatner fucks things up.png (1216x632, 202K)

Kirk, and to a lesser degree Spock and Bones, are all that let me get past how dated TOS is and actually enjoy it. Their scenes together, and Kirk just being Kirk, as some of the best Trek we've ever had, and I say that as someone who despises early scifi shows.

Shatner is a legend. I would argue that, post Discovery and with Picard coming, his books are even a better continuation of the setting, even if they are more or less an ego piece. Because for a lot of fans, Kirk *is* Trek, or at least the best of Trek, in the same way Luke Skywalker is/was Star Wars to a lot of kids.

What the fuck is Bill doing on /x/?

Idk, but Dan Akroid of the supernatural franchise Ghostbusters sincerely believes in Aliens.

Perhaps Shatner of the science fiction franchise sincerely believes in ghosts.

perhaps there's some opposites attract shit going on.

I would have to agree, the trio has one of the best chemistry in film/TV history.

Ghosts and aliens are the same thing, we just don't know it yet.

>Ghosts and aliens are the same thing, we just don't know it yet.
You mean because they're both not real?

I wouldn’t say lurking. “Shaping” is more like it

They were business-like during the original series; Shatner hated how popular Spock was with the fans. It seems they were fairly close when they started making the movies, up until Shatner put him in the documentary against his wishes.

Not that I know of. I think it was about the captains of each show, so perhaps Nimoy didn't feel that he needed to be a part of that, despite Spock being a captain in the movies.

any confident character is going to generate hate from people who aren't like that.

Why are incels so insecure?
