Opinion on Dune 1984?

I really can't imagine a cooler looking and more iconic stillsuit design. The miniseries design was so underwhelming.

My dads favorite movie, i don't have the heart to tell him it's fucking trash and he's an idiot for liking it.

The movie is 30+ years old, and a bunch of autistic fucks on an anonymous internet board still discuss the movie in threads at least once a week.
The movie also still airs on Cable channels, and was airing on broadcast TV channels at least once or twice a year for a couple decades.
The costume and set design is fantastic.
And many of the sequences, such as the riding of the worms, will likely still be viewed as classic pieces of cinema decades from now, like the witches and devils from ‘Haxan’, or some of the sequences from ‘Metropolis’.
Quite frankly, your dad has taste.

Great aesthetics, and the depictions of the esoteric factions of the universe like Mentats, Bene Gesserit, and Spacing Guild were fantastic.
1965 paperback version is 501 pages with maybe 40 pages appendix.

Kind of a mess. Was neither a very good adaptation of the book, nor a good David Lynch movie. It's not entirely terrible and the basic plot of the source material still gets across but it could have been done a lot better. I don't like how much a cartoon character they turned the baron into.

Amazing & unique first act.
Then the movie slowly gets worse.
The final battle is a mess.
Because Lynch can’t direct action.

Watching it again right now. I don't care for the extended version, and I guess that Lynch doesn't care for it either.
