I really really really hate this. The media thought the same in Euro 2020(1) and nearly came undone in the group stages. Lucky 1-0 wins and a draw with Scotland. USA and Wales/Scotland always up it against England, Iran I dunno if England have ever actually played so they're an unknown quantity and Ukraine aren't bad at all and have neutral support.

True, dodged a bullet

He's black?

Yeah I wouldn't like it if I was English, it can only come back to haunt you lol, you'll never see this front page again if they do what's expected of them.
I'm not trying to reverse jinx or emotionally hedge but I think England will win the group pretty easily. I think our game will be a semen slurping 0-0 at best for us, at worst you guys win 1-0. Iran sucks the only thing they have going for them is that they're playing close to home and all of their players probably hate the UK and US on a visceral level so they might be able to find an extra gear.

I don't want to be this cynical, but I do wonder if it actually plays a part.

I just find it funny that he is the 'best' we can muster up along side legends like Cafu kek.

It is never a good idea because you could lose all your best players to injuries or the coof or something.

>nearly came undone in the group stages
utterly delusional, completely at odds with reality
we totally breezed past both Croatia and the Czechs, finished with 7 points, unlucky not to score more but with a perfect defensive record. The coolest group stage I can ever remember, even more than 2018.

Did you watch the games? Neutered in attack.

Apart from the part where we scored and won two games.

Sorry, I just don't see England having the firepower to win games, as we saw in the Euros. Or, more specifically, Southgate doesn't have the tactical nous in him.

We would have gone through with three 0-0 draws. Stop being daft.

>as we saw in the Euros
where we put two past Germany, four past Ukraine, two past Denmark, and took the lead against Italy?
Some people are never pleased. You'd probably still be a miserable cunt come the next Euros if we won this WC.

I'm a 'miserable cunt' because in 2018 and 2021 we had a chance to actually win stuff and got let down by a manager who doesn't know what to do in certain situations. Losing a final to a team who couldn't even qualify for the WC. Also, apart from Germany, none of them were 'big teams'.

I dunno senpai, just not in E A S Y mode like everybody else seems to be.

>Losing a final to a team who couldn't even qualify for the WC
It's fucking Italy you spacker. Do you seriously not believe they're one of the top teams in the world regardless of a bizarre choke to N. Macedonia?

Top top team? No. Good team? Yes. Regardless, England should still have won that in 90 mins. Both the Croatia game and Italy game, their managers doubled up their wide players to neuter the wing backs of England. As soon as that happens, flanks become congested and unable to get forward quickly on the overload. Southgate has yet to realise this.

>Victor Osimhen
Is literally a FM tier player. Good in that game, shit IRL imo. 15 in 25 (11 in 20 in league).

Not asking you to say we're the best team in the world - just to be a bit more positive about a group where the second best team qualified on goal difference from CONCACAF.

england are shite
their fans are cunts
their manager is a fraud
most of their players are weakminded overrated shitters

and they will win nothing
meanwhile the reds are chugging nicely towards a historic quadruple

I'd be more positive if England had ever beaten USA in a competitive game. Yeah, the 1-1 Win for USA was down to >Green (much like Hart was at fault for >Iceland) but I just have a feeling that USA, once again, will be up for it. Ukraine will have the world on their side. Wales and Scotland will love twatting England or scuppering shit. Scotland really aren't that bad either.

I might feel better after the Nations League games, which are all tough ones.

West Ham (A)
Burnley (A)
United (H)
CP (H - Postponed)
Lestah (H)
Liverpool (A)
Chelsea (H)
Lestah (A)
Brentford (H)

Difficult but they could pick up enough points there. Watford have an equally hard fixture list. Burnley's isn't great, though they do face Norwich so, could be a vital 6pter there.

Cope. It’s over.

I'd agree if there weren't just lots of bad teams this year. Leeds aren't 100% safe either. What is the amount you normally have to reach to be safe? 40?

>Bruno Fernandes: Manchester United midfielder extends deal to 2026

It's allegedly 40, but more often than not you don't need 40. It's more like 35-37.
Everton need 3 wins and a draw to reach 35 points. They have to play Watford (a) too who you've missed out. I don't see how they can get 10 points from those matches, especially if they drop points to Burnley and Watford. Drop points to those, especially both of them, and Everton are in the cacky big time and I don't see anything other than relegation.
It's amazing that stats and ppg wise they're actually worse under Fronk than they were under Rafa.

>They have to play Watford (a) too who you've missed out
Shit. That means they have two essentially six pointers to play. If they could win those, I think they'd be safe. Then again, Watford have played well recently so, wouldn't be surprised if Everton and Watford switch. Everton will be one of the original founders of the PL to get relegated if that happens. Though I don't think they're the longest in top flight team, so, not too bad. Be a bit of a joke if they are relegated based on the amount they have spent in the last 5 years.

Yeah the matches against Burnley and Watford are going to be the deciders I think, and they aren't easy matches regardless what people might think. I would say Brentford too, but they might sort themselves out a bit now that Toney is back.
>I don't think they're the longest in top flight team
Arsenal are the longest, by some margin too. for consecutive seasons but Everton have had the most seasons in the top tier iirc. Arsenal were Woolwich Arsenal until 1915, or somewhere around there.
The amount Everton have spent seems to have been overlooked by a lot of people, but spending that amount and being where they are shows you how badly ran that club is and getting an influx of money means nothing if you aren't spending it properly.

Oh that might be it. Everton longest total length in top tier, while Arsenal are consecutive. I knew Everton were important record wise, which is why them being relegated is probably a bad thing. Even if they are, I doubt they'll stay down for long. There was some research on parachute payments and basically like 80% of the teams who got relegated come straight back up or some shit.

>There was some research on parachute payments and basically like 80% of the teams who got relegated come straight back up or some shit

Don't the odds dramatically decrease with every season they aren't promoted after the first attempt though? I'm sure I read it somewhere. It's like if you don't get promoted in the first season then you gradually fall off because you end up with less money to buy and pay players with and you start becoming a less attractive option.
Some clubs spend big in the Championship and hope to offset the loss by being promoted which saves them from FFP.
I don't think Everton would be one of those to fall off even if they didn't get promoted first time because they have the kind of financial backing that would see them be able to outspend the rest. Same as when Newcastle were relegated last time. Leeds were different because of the situation that led to them being relegated in the first place.

>tfw Millwall have spent 19 seasons in the Championship without ever playing in the Premier League, a record number of seasons spent in the Championship without being promoted

I do sort of want them to be promoted just so I can see them play West Ham.

can't seem to find anyone who keeps a list of most consecutive seasons by each team

I found a larger list of the one you posted. I'm assuming anyone not listed has never played in the top flight before.
Based Glossop.

Attached: 1643556045797.png (852x8844, 1.15M)

Never mind, I'm retarded. That's a list of top flight seasons, not consecutive.

yeah but i'm interested in what it looks like if you just look at each team's longest spell e.g. what's the longest time between relegations for man utd and so on

Alex Scott is doing Football Focus I believe? You can't have white people on the BBC in 2022, user. Even if the show is set in 566AD, you gotta have 20% minimum visible diversity (which means black) characters. This means they MUST have speaking lines. We'll never ever get a full white caste again. Yet the BBC continues to be confused why people are not paying for it.

Is there anything more soulless and grim in football than selling the naming rights to your stadium?

...

Seeing a hard working, homegrown lad get pushed out of the team for some lazy nog on 5x their wages.

Seeing players of "hated rivals" laugh and joke with each other after a match

Any examples of this specifically? I know it does happen I'm just curious who it is you're thinking about. It gives the player the opportunity to complete a redemption arc where they punish the club that forced them out.

This is even worse in boxing. They used to have real rivalries where they genuinely hated each other and maybe years after retirement they'd patch things up. Now it's like a WWE script.
Shocking.

genuinely mental how many people put liverpool outside the top 2. And a few even putting them in 4th or even 5th. Have any of these people been watching football the past 5 years? Wasn't there a stretch of 38 games where Liverpool won like 112 of 114 possible points or something insane like that?

>women with the worst opinions

>Wasn't there a stretch of 38 games where Liverpool won like 112 of 114 possible points or something insane like that?
must have been during the up cycle

I'm desperately trying to find the lad who got forced out by a new manager so he could bring his ngubu mate from his old club into the first team and then the lad signed for their rivals and scored a last minute winner against the new manager and celebrated in his face

>Jermaine Beckford

>A team without a theme in the Theatre of Dreams, Manchester United’s pursuit of fourth place in the Premier League has become the chase that never quite gets out of second gear
"A team without a theme in the Theatre of Dreams", that's decent.

I think that's the earliest one I remember in the Prem.
Worst current one imho? The Select Car Leasing Stadium.

I would love to know who that is, it sounds dangerously based.

>Is there anything more soulless and grim in football than selling the naming rights to your stadium?
I genuinely don't feel like this is THAT bad. Most people will just refer to it by its older name.

It was Kevin Ellison. New manage came in and froze him out of the team, never put him in the starting squad, made him train alone until his contracted ended. He joined Newport County and scored in the 80th minute to put the game to bed and charged the manager down.

youtube.com/watch?v=wwg1I06cgKY

Was it Kevin Ellison?

>Most people will just refer to it by its older name

While that's true, younger zoomers grow up thinking that part of the club's identity is its official name.
Some old skool cats like myself simply never move on. I still call St Mary's the Dell, the King Power as Filbert Street, and Pride Park as the Baseball Ground. Even though those stadiums don't even exist anymore. To me they are, and always will be, where those clubs play.

Absolutely based. Thanks for that.

That's true. I think it seems more obvious with boxing just with it being a combat sport.
When players joined rival teams there used to be complete outrage. Now it's almost to be expected and no one really gives too much of a fuck.

Was genuinely surprised at the lack of threads mocking Chelsea losing to Brentford. :Thonk:

City have reduced Liverpool's allocation due to "safety reasons" next week, they're already coping

>we're not even playing well
Joe Gomez, is that you?

Gomez got MOTM last time and an assist this time

Does Ward-Prowse go to the World Cup?
Remember that to be worth taking him he basically has to play the full 90+ in every match to make use of his lone talent of dead balls. Which he is admittedly shit-hot at.

i don't see how he gets in ahead of rice/henderson/bellingham/mount and honestly probably phillips
gallagher probably misses out too

After 21 games Ralf Rangnick is statistically Man United's worst manager since 1981

wonder what his long term plans are, i see konate taking over from matip to be the long term van dijk partner, i guess gomez would still get a lot of rotation in but maybe he needs to leave

Personally I think JWP should be a sub. 70 mins in, drawing, you play for freekicks and hope he hits them in. He's also good at corners afaik. He's not bad at everything else either. Remember England has like four tough Nation League games to play before the WC. Easily could see injuries or new formations that don't work or something.

>70 mins in, drawing, you play for freekicks and hope he hits them in.
This is a fantasy of how football really works, he scored the one today in the 49th minute
You realistically need him for the whole match or not at all

>BBC HYS on the Leeds Saints game
>Talk about JWP and his freekick ability
>'That's all he's good at!'
Is he? I don't watch them a lot, but I was under the impression he wasn't that bad.

I suppose his 1 talent is better than the 0 talent Mount has, unless you want to include giving the ball away and fouling players in dangerous areas.

Mitrovic is the focal point of their attack now, he should get at least double figures. It's not like last time Fulham were in the PL under Parker or when he was at Newcastle.

>Lampard: "I am less worried about personnel and more worried about the character of the group."
WAHHHHH IT'S EVERYONE'S FAULT BUT MIIIIIIIIINE

He has to be taking the fucking piss with that.

>Everton boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is not ideal to lose Donny in the warm-up but you deal with it and I think we did. The reshuffle was done well in terms of Mason coming in from playing centre-back recently to midfield. The performance was good and we deserved more from the game. A lot of things went against us today, which is how it has been going for us. But there were a lot of positives against a good team. We certainly deserved a point against a good team.

>"Finishing and goalscoring, it is talent and work on the training ground. The work doesn't always replicate on the pitch but you have to keep going. Every player and team goes through moments. We created the better chances today and enough to score two or three goals. If we do that we win games and we have 10 more to do that.

>"Ten games is a lot. If our luck turns and we keep on the path we showed today and against Newcastle I have a real strong belief we will be OK. Saying that now here means nothing. We just have to focus on ourselves. The next game is huge because it is Burnley but also because it is our next game. After that we move on to Manchester United.

>"You want to win games. Today isn't so enjoyable. It is not if you don't turn up and get opened up as a team. It has happened a couple of times since I have been here but not much. But that comes with the territory of where we are at. Look at West Ham. Today they are very strong but two or three years ago they are facing relegation. And then they build, stick together and recruit and they move on. Everton has huge history and a fanbase. At the moment we are working to get through this moment. Myself and the players are giving everything. The fans can know if we keep doing that over 10 games we will be OK."

Alli needs to play just off a striker, anything else and he's anonymous.

Don't have a lot of sympathy for him, if he wanted trophies he shouldn't have kept signing new contracts with Spurs.

I wonder how retarded his brother is, the one who acts as his agent.

I know he probably never even had the locker room (unlike big strong American Jesse Marsch) but that won't make things any better

He and Stevie G are the same in that regard, like they can't accept that their players won't just go out and execute their genius tactics perfectly and win. Lampard seems much more morose about it, though, probably because he knows he's pretty much doomed even if they stay up, while SG will get to blow £100M on Liverpool buddies and rejects before he gets sacked.

what the fuck did they even buy do spunk that much money. 2019 was before the coof so they can't even blame that

Buying a load of middling players for 50m a pop might have done it

still in awe of them spending like 35m on Iwobi

aren't losses that big over 3 years big enough to trigger FFP?

I know they were at risk in the summer, hence why they spent very little on players like Townsend

Remind me what these parasites are here for, again?

Attached: ffp danger.jpg (1194x1159, 87.16K)

>Villa
what happened?

make sure their clients aren't exploited by billionaire football club owners

Exploited by paying them 300k a week instead of 400k?

They have always spent beyond their means. Just a more successful QPR or Portsmouth.

Villa's new owners have thrown a ridiculous amount of money at the club since they bought in

they spunk absurd amounts of money all the time and rarely make big sales to fund it
>21/22
summer they spent 91m on Buendia, Bailey and Ings, then in winter they spent 27m on Digne. While the grealish money helped, they already burned it in one season
total spend- 118m
total sale- 114m
net- 4m loss
>20/21 (Martinez, Watkins, Sanson, Cash In)
total spend- 91m
total sale- 2.5m
net- 88.5m loss
>19/20 (Wesley, Mings, Luiz, Targett, Konsa, Nakamba, Samatta, Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Heaton, Engels, Peleteiro, Hause and Reina on loan in)
total spend- 144m
total sale- 2.7m
net- 141.3m loss

so since being in the prem, they've lost 233.8m on just transfer fees. Considering they're midtable at best club with little overseas fanbase, they've got really no way of making back those losses with other revenue streams

Is that figure before or after the Grealish sale?

Nevermind

the grealish sale was their only real bit of profit in ages.
Don't forget the coof fucked their income from tickets and so on in the last couple of seasons

I remember they also hired a bunch of mercenaries QPR style the season they got relegated, can't remember the exact figure but it was still quite a lot of money back then. What about their championship years? Did they also spend like crazy?

>18/19
Spend- 17m
Sale- 14.5m
Net- 2.5m loss
>17/18
Spend- 2.5m
Sale- 16m
Net- 13.5m profit
>16/17
Spend- 77m
Sale- 41m
Net- 36m loss

Overall, 25m loss for the stint which can't have been easy to swallow.

:mudkip:

it's more interesting if they don't win tonight i reckon

for what purpose

a load of clubs kept postponing their games for spurious reasons so now they've finally clocked there is not enough weekends to put them all in

Midweek kick-offs should be 7:45pm at the latest.

can't believe Aaron Ramsey killed dot cotton like that

There's definitely something going on with Ramsey. It's impossible for it to be a coincidence. Impossible.

Reckon he could be a pundit at the world cup desu. I don't think his management career will end, not yet at least. He seems to be enjoying it and he's surprised a lot of people with what he's done with Derby.
I don't want anyone saying "what? getting them relegated?" because you know what I mean. Other managers would have resigned and Derby would have been rockbottom and relegated in November.

No, friend. Sir Bobby was an international treasure, only Barcafags choose to discard him for the Dutch fraud. Even so, nobody hated him and all loved him.
I must see the documentary about him one of these days, I reckon it will be peak soul.

>nobody hated him and all loved him

It really is weird to think about, especially with football being the way it is with rival clubs and things. Like this youtube.com/watch?v=4_kBI4oICwU I couldn't really imagine a rival club doing it for another manager.
He always seemed like such a genuinely nice man. I always remember this girl I was trying to shag went for dinner at his house with her family. Just a private thing, her, her sister, and parents, and Sir Bobby and Elsie, about 4 or 5 months before he died. I was fucking gutted I didn't get an invite. I got some pics though, which I had to be content with (didn't get to shag the girl neither).
