I had a hard time getting into the show because of the degree to which it bastardizes everything righteous about superheroics.
What pisses me off is that it'd be one thing if we had a proper paragon elevated with pop-culture notoriety, introduced recently for all generations to be able to collectively refer back to. Because in that case, it'd be the figure that Homelander could be the deconstruction of. We'd have an argument, and a counterargument. But as much as I loved Evans' Cap, he's no Superman, which means that when people are tasked with looking for the structure that "The Boys" is meant to deconstruct, they are forced to look at Snyder's DCEU, because that is what WB wanted to be their presentation of their heroes, and while I won't go so far as to say that the Justice League of the DCEU is the same as The Seven of The Boys, they are closer because of Snyder's choices than they should be, and as someone who loves the Justice League, that pisses me off.
