Just saw The Great Dictator for the first time. First Charlie Chaplin film I have ever seen, and I have to say it is not only an absolute masterpiece but very fun all throughout. What should I watch next?
Charlie Chaplin

Glad you discovered that kino, OP. I'd say check out
>Modern Times
>City Lights
I love it too.
Also both of these. They're his three masterpieces. Also The Gold Rush.
great film, also, fuck woman abusing commies
The Circus is my favorite of his
Keaton was better than this hack
watch Gold Rush for absolute incel kino
Definitely City Lights
Then move on to Modern Times and then the Circus.
Shall watch these next. I thought Chaplin movies were just some dumb boomer shit until now. Totally blown away
separate artist from art
There's a whole world of incredible films out there, user. Human emotion wasn't invented in the 70's. The masterpieces made over the last hundred years still resonate.
I've seen a lot of older classics, but was just wary of Charlie Chaplin. I thought I'd just find his humor annoying but actually got laughs out of this as well as really felt it.
Kids these days think that Chaplin's stuff is all slipping on banana peels and getting pies in the face. Then they watch his movies and they end up laughing and crying. That's what he was good at. Also watch Buster Keaton's classics. Especially Sherlock Jr. and The General. He's not anywhere near as emotional as Chaplin is, but he's so incredibly funny, and the stunts are indescribable.
He abused women? Source? I only heard he married an 18 year old who was much younger than him. It was totally legal and ethical but society disapproved because of the age gap only
>slippin on banana peels and getting pies in the face
yeah that's pretty much exactly what i expected. Very decently surprised to actually find his actual gags funny
He knocked up a 15 year old. I'm pretty sure he also fucked a 12 year old who was acting in one of his movies.
I like that Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter showed her naked tits on television.
In the future I hope all women follow her courageous example and show their tits in public.
Oh. Source?
The Gold Rush
The Kid
Monsieur Verdoux

>Chaplin would also come to have a more involved relationship with another one of his young co-stars on The Kid, 12-year-old Lillita McMurray who plays a flirtatious angel in the Heaven sequence. Four years later, Chaplin and the actress, then known as Lita Grey, were married.
Keaton for physical comedy and Chaplin for sentimentality mixed with comedy. They’re both top tier.
It says 4 years later. I think 16 is the real cut off between non consensual and consensual so not as fucked. But a 15 year old really pushes it
You just know Chaplin was pissed about Hitler copying his stache
I think it's funny because Chaplin and Hitler look very similar but were like polar opposites of each other
Based on what I've heard about Chaplin, I highly doubt he waited that long. It was a different time, and it probably wasn't as unusual as it is now, but he certainly did like girls on the younger side.
There are so many great silent comedians.
Alright, so according to Wikipedia, he got her pregnant when she was 15 and that's why they got married.
>At the age of 15, she met Chaplin again when she heard he was testing brunettes for his The Gold Rush.[4] They had an affair and she suspected she had become pregnant by the then-35-year-old Chaplin. As he could have been imprisoned for having sexual relations with a minor, they married that November in secret in Empalme, Sonora, Mexico to avoid a scandal. They had two sons, Charles Chaplin Jr. and Sydney Chaplin.
In the 1800s it was extremely common to become romantically, albeit strictly non-sexually, involved with an underaged girl with the prospect of marriage when she became of age.
Oh. Wtf
That doesn't sound too bad to me as long as it's strictly non-sexual.
Mickey Rooney was married and 26 when he fucked 14 year old Elizabeth Taylor
It is still weird though if the man is much older. If it's strictly non sexual it really isn't that bad but still a bit creepy
Dating was much stricter back then. You had to acquire her guardians' permission. Take her only to socially acceptable places. No scandalous behavior. Kid-friendly hours and public places only. Generally, you two were never alone for extended periods of time. She wasn't allowed in your home if you lived alone, etc.
Of course, the rules weren't always followed. But that was what society expected. Women generally married older men back then, typically around 10 years older and financially secure.
Charlie Chaplin married J.D Salinger's (Catcher in the Rye guy) first girlfriend when she was 18 and Chaplin was in his 50s. Salinger found out while he was deployed in WWII iirc.
poor salinger, still hate his book though
Imagine being a rich old man during WW2 and slaying all of that pussy left behind in America while every able bodied young man was dying in Europe.
You would've basically had your pick, men in both generations would've been far away. Forgot to mention Chaplin married her on her 18th birthday.
