>However, even more striking, is the fact that [via IndieWire] as confirmed at CinemaCon yesterday, Mendes is attempting to film “1917” as one long take, ala Alejandro Iñárritu’s “Birdman.”

>Saving Private Ryan but WWI
>trailer trying too hard to be like Dunkirk's (clock ticking)
>that annoying new trend of putting a mini teaser in front of the trailer which is just a part of the trailer
>Sam Mendes is now an established action director
Yeah this looks like boring mediocrity

Cast already has a Pajeet so I hope you're happy

I LOVE YOU BABE, AND IT'S QUITE ALRIGHT!!

Sorry to disturb your thread, but currently Sneed is a plague on this board and we must fight it with mask. Continue with your thread but if you want to fight sneed post some mask here on in another thread.

From that trailer looks like it is heavily influenced by Dunkirk

Will ever have R rated war movies ever again ?

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

can there actually be WWI kino? the whole thing was just horrifying. no glamour to it at all. just like a fucking meatgrinder the likes of which we haven't been able to replicate since

Here's the real WW1 Kino

Imagine getting exactly what you want and then ironically shitposting against it. You /pol/ack fucking faggots sicken me

Unfortunately it looks shit. I doubt it will be accurate and full of the 'war is horror' cliche.

Been a while since a trailer got me excited like this

There was plenty
>just like a fucking meatgrinder the likes of which we haven't been able to replicate since
You need to put down the marxist revisionism from the 60s and read more considered works from before and since 2000. Most were happy to fight. Average length in the trenches was 3 days before being rotated out. Whilst there were periods of high losses and units were slaughtered, this was the exception not the rule.

>WW1 movie
>We wuz brits
They could have picked literally anything else to make this bazillion times more interesting.

Meh.....Just Dunkirk WWI. More pretentious drivel. Looks boring and drawn out with few actual large scale battle scenes.

Just like Dunkirk before it, does not look anywhere near to capturing the scale of the battlefield it is supposed to represent.

>ww1 movie
>no french

it's all so tiresome

>Gallipoli
Political shit
>horse movie
War Horse? Emotional clap trap for children

This has ok action but on the whole is shit because of the main plot of the film taking place in canada focusing on the hero and a junkie nurse
youtube.com/watch?v=ZfJGC-drDSw

The french were shit though and only useful as bullet sponges.

The First World War is a fascinating conflict, unfortunately all WWI films we get are Yanks or Limeys. Would love to see a full scale movie on Tannenberg or any other major battle/campaign in the east where the front lines were fluid with massive movements. WWI Western Front trench warfare is played.

Will likely have to wait for the Russians to produce a decent film on the subject (they have been producing a lot of decent war flicks the last few decades).

>american propaganda
>inevitable 15 oscars awards
no thank you

>1917
>Not about the October Revolution

Into the trash it goes

I have mixed feelings. Sam Mendes directed Jarhead and American Beauty which I both liked, and I do appreciate anything related to ww1.

Cautiously optimistic

Fucking finally a Great War movie

>tired gimmick movie
lame

They carried the western front for everyone else, you stupid motherfucker.
The brits were the ones who needed to get on their level.

>Imagine getting exactly what you want
/pol/ doesnt want everything to be white, they just want to complain.

You've got that backwards. Their shit equipment, tactics and reliance on poorly trained consripts that were called up and in the front weeks later where they often mutinied held everyone else back. Innovation and break throughs was all reliant on the Brits,

French soldiers paid a heavy price for their nations stupidity.

for what purpose

That' so 2012. It should have been a B&W film in 4:3 format. Didnt he get the memo?

nothing like white people slaughtering white people the way only white people can for the amusement of others though

>single piano note
fuck off

looks kino

>retarded german soldiers power-walk toward the canadian positions and are only able to kill a canadian in some kind of sneaky underhanded way
passchendaele is the most flagrant leaf propaganda I've ever seen.

immersion

Lots of room for ww1 kino. Dont know why people are so afraid of diving into it, it's not like we're lacking source material. For a couple years now I've had this dream of writing a screenplay based off of this one division I had read about. Pretty sure they were either out of Yorkshire or Edinburgh. Anyways, they had fought in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Western front at the height of the Spring Offensive. Lots of written accounts, personal notes and even some old war footage to use as research. I need myself a true ww1 epic bros.

Sounds like diferent battalions of a regiment to me.

Read a book, retard.

They were tho

Think of a new joke, this was stale in 2012.

Attached: 1535455797976.jpg (480x360, 8K)

Retard. Canadians, Aussies, and Germans were the only good soldiers and officers on the Western Front.
Both the Brits and French were impossibly stupid.
>dude just walk to the enemy trench so you have energy left to fight
>would have overwhelmed the Germans if they would've run

Why is the lead not a strong woman of colour? Fucking incels.

Oh boy this looks really good.

>Innovation and break throughs was all reliant on the Brits
Nope. 90% Canadian.
Arthur Currie, look him up. Basically created all of the most important developments of the war apart from what the Germans did, and was the reason behind Operations and soliving the German defense/counter-attack.

Got my facts mixed up. It was the 11th Northern Divison. Served in Gallipoli, Suez, and then Western Front from 1916 until the end of the war.

Looks like potential kino but i am a bit worried about the actual story/writing. The last Sam Mendes movies have been kinda meh

>ww1 film
>based on the gayest year, 1917, when the fag-enabler capital of the world entered the war

Don't remember this. Where is it?

The reason for the slow advance was so the assault on positions that had been shelled for a week would land on the positions at the same time. Brits were the most innovative army in the war.

>deliver a message to stop an attack and save your brother

So it's basically Gallipoli combined with Saving Private Ryan

Attached: 200902_mel-gibson-mustache.jpg (338x469, 34K)

As I said, British.

Another dumbass.
Literally the best year of the war, almost all of the greatest battles happened along with tactical developments and the beginning of modern warfare. And Amerikikes didn't fight until 1918, so it's irrelevant.

I don't want to see tactical developments, I want to see Frenchmen getting mowed down by the hundreds in front of a Maxim.

Wrong. It's documented as saving energy to fight in the trenches. See historian Peter Barton, along with the German account in his documentary.
What you're talking about is the creeping barrage which was developed after this catastrophe, and by a Canadian, Arthur Currie. The Brits shot all their shells beforehand, and were incapable of hitting their targets even, leaving the soldiers open to fire after giving the Germans a warning, and not being able to destroy the lines of wire.
Don't make shit up when you have no clue what you're talking about.

Not at all.
Most of the Canadians despised the British command because they had no clue how to fight or maintain proper authority. Hence why Currie had to restructure the military and fight against British command to get these changes implemented.

>Suez,
More of a rest stop. Their story isn't that unique or interesting bud, sorry.

I'm not talking about a creeping barrage. You're the one making shit up pal.

That was part of the strategic and tactical development though. As well as shock troops getting behind enemy lines and killing multiple people with only a mace or knife.
To create an incredible film someone would have to understand these changes, and especially how the Germans began fighting from impossible positions due to their policy of defense in depth.

I have to agree with out friend though; I'm going to look into it a little. There's no fucking way a large body of men can cross what is essentially the worlds worst garbage tip at a charge and be expected to arrive at the same time.

Lol, what a pseud. You clearly don't know what the creeping barrage is.
And you first made an assumption based on what I was talking about, the assault on the Somme which resulted in countless deaths from walking forward, while the Germans are documented as saying they would have been overwhelmed if the Brits had only run.
What are you talking about then? Where is the policy to walk in the open like retards after the development of the creeping barrage? And what is your source?

>Where is the policy to walk in the open like retards after the development of the creeping barrage?
Another user here, are you saying that post creeping barrage there was no walking?

If I were to ever write a film about WWI, it would either be about the Siege of Kut or something about Lettow Von Vorbeck fighting in Africa.

Sorry that someone being constantly right sickens you instead of the yids destroying history

Well, they could be expected to run at a certain pace, given through training. This was also part of Currie's developments after researching what went wrong at Verdun and the Somme. The men could not be simply material, they had to have clear objectives and be a part of the battle plan so that they could adapt to the needs of the battle as it played out or went awry. And so they democratised the structure and also practised many of the movements before a battle.
But such a thing like running would only be necessary before the creeping barrage. Using the shelling as a shield, precisely aiming the attack to positions and barbed wire, and walking forward in a manner of stealth was the best development they had. And it required everyone's participation to work rather than firing off shells then attacking out in the open.
Currie was a farmer and a soldier's officer, which gave him a unique perspective on the battlefield, similar to the other Canadians, Aussies, and Germans, and very unlike the Brits who were a bourgeois/idle command completely divided from the common soldiers.

>You clearly don't know what the creeping barrage is
Strawmanning, the mark of losing an argument.

You made several bold assertions - some would call them lies - in your first post.
>Retard. Canadians, Aussies, and Germans were the only good soldiers and officers on the Western Front.
This is just a pathetic statement to make.
>Both the Brits and French were impossibly stupid.
I agree that the french nation and it's people have always been less that gifted in the IQ department. Their weapons and conscription method were not fit for purpose. The British, under Haig, were flexible and keen to learn. They entered the war with the most widespread adoption of machineguns, utilised technological, tactical and strategic innovation whereever possible, entirely due to Haig. That's why he was loved so much, though unlike Currie he wasn't one for careerism or politics (source: letters to his wife)
Your pitiful evidence was
>dude just walk to the enemy trench so you have energy left to fight
The walked to: maitain a cohesive assault; because they weren't going in light order and were bringing a lot of equiment as they intended to dig in; and because they didn't realise the depth and sturdiness of German bunkers and expected them to be dead.
>would have overwhelmed the Germans if they would've run
So?
>while the Germans are documented as saying they would have been overwhelmed if the Brits had only run.
So?
This is only evidence of decisions taking not having the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

>Currie won the war by himself
Your mental masturbation is pathetic
>And so they democratised the structure
wut?
>and very unlike the Brits who were a bourgeois/idle command completely divided from the common soldiers.
Yayyy 1960s marxist myths!

No. The creeping barrage effectively made marching a workable tactic.
He is saying that the soldiers only marched forward to arrive at the same time. But this itself is untrue as the soldiers went in waves.
I am just trying to figure out what he is saying since he claims this has nothing to do with the creeping barrage, so either he is saying this occurred as a separate strategy from the creeping barrage or he is attempting to claim one aspect of the creeping barrage as a separate development.
Either way, he refuses to source or back up his claim in any way.

You're a fucking idiot.

>Strawmanning, the mark of losing an argument.
lmao, that's not what a straw man is, dumbass.
And normally your statement follows ad hominem, which you fully deserve. And I stopped reading there. Learn basics before having an argument.

based haig apologist user

WW1 started due to retarded political shit and alliances you knob.

>he thinks bourgeois only has relevance from marxism
Dumbass. It's a term which can also apply from the right, referred to as an idle or impoverished aristocracy.
Read a book sometime.

and with a ROUSING BRITISH CHEER the hated Kaiser Wilhelm and his son Hitler were defeated. FOR KING AND COUNTRY!

>Haig

Which version of All Quiet on the Western Front to watch? 1930 or the 70s one?

>germans were good boys
>they didnt do nuffin
>we need more money for our WW3...programs

literally the only thing that made men do what they did in WWI was ethnic national identity and pride for one's own country, I seriously doubt any modern film makers would understand that and they would just push the IT WAS UNFAIR THE STATE IS EVIL idea

Fortnite superstar Tyler "Ninja" Blevins has left Twitch and is taking his video game live streams to Microsoft's Mixer platform, a stunning switch that could have wide-ranging consequences for the rapidly growing industry.

>sam mendes
i sure fucking hope so, needs to be much more ww1 kino in this world

Yeah? So tell me some of what you learned about Haig from Blackadder, user. Explain away how his former soldiers flooded to the streets to pay their respects at his death. Explain how he didn't encourage innovation, and how without him the tank wouldn't have been developed (not that it was a wonderweapon but it also wasn't as insignificant as revisionists like to make out)
Yes because all the officers were toffs who didn't care for their men. Yawn. Read a book sometime.
Gallipoli is part of the 60's revisionism that occurred as the marxists did their 'long march' through the institutions.

>the only thing that made men do what they did in WWI was ethnic national identity and pride for one's own country

and certainly not conscription. based sentimental revisionist user

>Explain away how his former soldiers flooded to the streets to pay their respects at his death

they were brits right? those people can't start forelock pulling and licking the boots of an aristocrat quickly enough

There's a scene in the 70's one where Ernest Borgnine is fighting in hand to hand combat, and God he looks so slow and old, it's ridiculous.

Oh fuck no.

The remake's not up to much. The old one's pretty innovative.

Why is it always British soldiers? Why not French, Germans, Turkish, Belgians, Russians, or Americans for that matter

>Why not
French, get shot, mutiny
Germans, kill a few civillians, be hungry, be sneaky - would watch
Turkish - be roach
Belgians - make beer, fuck kids
Russians - starve, get rekt, revolution
Americans - Turn up, don't do a lot, get involed at the end. The Lost Battalion has some kino scenes, but is inaccurate.

what are some WW1 kino? could be in the form of book, tv series or movie besides:
Anzacs
All Quiet on the Western Front
Gallipoli
Paths of Glory
Joyeux Noel
Sgt York
The Lost Battalion

>why do english speaking movie industries make movies about and for english speaking people

It's truly a mystery.

because conscription allows people to charge trenches and not just mass desert and rapefugee off to some other country, based state blaming revisionist

>invented the tank with a rotating turret and separate compartments for engine and crew that all tanks are based upon to this day
user

Mutinies were a result of constant death. I don’t really blame the French for that honestly since they were dying more often than the brits and Portuguese

It’s not gonna be Hard-R with extreme gore so I’m not interested

For me, it's Oh What a Lovely War.

Attached: Oh What a Lovely War 1969.jpg (2636x1905, 1.69M)

The October "revolution" was just a bolshevik military coup. Boring and tragic. If you want a movie about the Russian revolution it should be the February Revolution.

not really a fan of hollywood-style war movies

No, and though I forget his name (might have been Foche) the general who took command dealt with the mutiniers pretty well, getting them to stand down and listening to their concerns.
Weak b8

>Weak b8

Maybe but it's still a good film.

more like a result of a weak incompetent state that definitely should have lost the war but was instead held up with crutches and patchworks by the Anglos

>was just a jewish led bolshevik military coup
>tragic
Yes, particularly as the tsar had been developing the nation fast than any other europen nation, which communism destroyed.

Yikes.

>another WW1 movie that shows the eternal brit
when will it end

>another british-american movie showing either brits or americans

Weird isn't it. Funny how French movies show the French too. What a world we live in.

You're aware that only 12 of the 80 battalions involed marched at a slow pace? What's your sauce for the "energy left to fight? It isn't mentioned in Rawlinson's Tactical Notes.
Creeping barrage was used at the somme. Just saw your reference about saving energy, do you have a better one than "I saw it on TV"?

>Ignorant commie cope
Nice, glad to see you acknowledge defeat.

Creeping barrage was not used at the Somme. Stop making shit up, copefag.

And no, this is not a straw man.

Or at least not in the early disastrous battles to which we were originally discussing.

This obviously depended on the nation & unit.
Brits & Yankees generally had a pretty easy time of it compared to all the other powers who had much greater strain on their manpower and couldn't afford the same conveniences.

But yeah, lots of people had a great time in WW1, especially Americans. There's loads of mail from Doughboy vets about how their time overseas was like a once in a lifetime adventure.

I've seen the documentary he's talking about. It's brilliant and completely from the perspective of a historian. Don't know why you're acting like a child.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Barton_(historian)

>More of a rest stop. Their story isn't that unique or interesting bud, sorry.
You do know Ottomans attacked Suez Canal at one stage of the war by crossing the Sinai Desert with a whole army, which was considered to be unthinkable feat by the british due to how batshit hostile that desert is.

If anything WW1 has much more kino potential compared to WW2.

Honestly I would impregnate Nikki even knowing she's taken miles of dick and she's almost 40.

Just letters and orders and acutal fact.

Bong mindset never moved past the 50s and they are still stuck in their "we single-handedly saved the West!!!!' rewritten history while everybody else in Europe grew up. Sad.

Because it's a shit source that is readily available to look up, and seems to be the basis for his bullshit. I'm aware of time teams's Peter Barton.
Yes, but it was still primarily a transit point. Did the unit you're talking about defend the suez in the attack?

Post them then. Otherwise, it's bullshit as I already proved.

Why are you incels so obsessed with blacks/women/gays

>war/history movie in 2019

I've been refuting your statements, that you haven't posted a single reference for. You haven't proven anything, other than reed about currie. Post some actual sources, and I'll point you in the correct direction.

>Because it's a shit source that is readily available to look up
Huh? Why is a historian talking a shit source? It's shit because it's easily accessible? These are hipster arguments.

Sometimes video is a superior medium for getting across certain points. For example, showing a ridge and the superior line of fire, what it's like to be in a trench or tunnel, moving diagrams, and animations of tactical movements. I like books as much as any academic, but for what he was doing a documentary is superior. It is able to convey complex ideas with simple images all while discussing battle movements, letters from soldiers, quotes from soldiers' books, and historical records. A book would never have been as successful in getting across what he wanted to. It's brilliant history.

Have you even seen the documentary? By your responses I can tell you have not.

I may have done, there's been so many over the last 5 years I don't know. I rarely take them as anything other than entertainment. Rawlinson's Tactical Notes directly refute this meme, as do other accounts of the battle.
Haig's support for new methods and ingenuity is well documented, as his distate for careerism. (Knowing an article was to printed about him in the papers he forewarned his wife in a letter "I would hate for you to think of me as a self-publicizer).

You're pathetic, trudeau cocksucking marxist. Go back to wanking to pictures of currie. Post sources for you bs or piss off.

Sure mate I'll come armed to the toof

>would have overwhelmed the Germans if they would've run
There is no way you're going to be running over absolute slop shit ground for 100 meters, they aren't fucking Olympic athletes dude

>war is hell
when will this meme die? my great grandpa had a blast in WW1, said he loved it, would do again, left us a load of kraut souvenirs, his medals and coins

>UMMMM its 2019.
>Where are all the women? Blacks? Latinos? Arabs?

This is racist as fuck

>finally admits he was pulling it out of his arse
Well done, there's no shame in admitting you were wrong.

Have we not seen enough trench warfare? I want one about the failure of the sclieffen plan

The jews make you obsessed with blacks/women/gays? Sad

>jewish led

>communism destroyed
human death toll aside, Russia was rapidly industrialized under the Communists.

I want some Alps Kino. Or the 100 days.

>seething
Yes Russia was industrialized under the commies. Not as quickly as under the tsar, plus it was delayed by nearly 10 years, oh and you kept killing of those with education/knowledge.
Nice cherry picked stats. What % of the first politburo were Jews?

Even if it's absolute dogshit, I'd watch it any day over these sequel/prequel/reboot Disney shits

>Russia was rapidly industrialized under the Communists
Unfortunately we will never know if a democratic republic under the duma would be able to accomplish the same. I don't care about that jew conspiracy thing, the bolsheviks installed a authoritarian hellhole and you don't have to be a nazi to admit that. Most of the world (especially France and the US) supported the February Revolution. After the October military coup, most of the world supported the whites since everyone knew that the bolsheviks was a bunch of homicidal fanatics

>all those shells bursting right next to people as they charge
>dudes seem completely unfazed by it instead of being torn to bits
>battlefield isnt strewn with copious amounts of limbs and blood
this is why ww1 movies will never be kino. unless the rumors for 1917 turn out to be bullshit (that thing about it being pg-13). Also wtf is up with the dude blowing a whistle to signal the chrage and some how everyone can hear it? wouldnt you be deaf as fuck from all the explsions and shit?
>we finally get a ww1 attempt at kino without niggers and robot trannies but its looking like it might suck anyway

How could he run so close to explosions and not die?

Attached: 1917.png (793x487, 383K)

because soda-chugging audiences don't know how explosions work and hollywood doesn't care

>pumpkin CARVING kit
If only there would've been a clue to what was in it.

Politburo wasn't particularly important until Stalin. It was an organ of the Secretariat which only became the supreme power-making body under Stalin due to his position of General Secretary. Lenin wasn't even General Secretary during his tenure in power, which demonstrates the small value that was placed on the Politburo and Central Committee. Rather under Lenin the position of Premier was most relevant, followed by the Council of Ministers and standing Presidum of the Supreme Soviet. Stalin deliberately circumvented these organs to develop his own powerbase.

The first Politburo had rather minor figures on it such as Elena Stasnova (who you probably never heard of, she was Lenin's secretary) but not far more relevant individuals such as Felix Dzerzhinsky, major Bolshevik leaders such as Pyatakov and Krestinsky, and Nikolai Podvoisky (the first head of the Red Army)

the eternal anglo strikes again

Germans invented stormtroopers tho

Where's my WW1 kino based on Ernst Jünger's diaries?

To any anons interested in reading about it; his Storm of Steel is excellent.

>clearly fake explosions
>no blood or gore
>Sam Mendes
>le ticking clock soundtrack
its going to be shit bro

Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and Turkey all backed the reds in the Civil War. Germany actually sent Lenin/Bolsheviks in as agents to subvert the pro-Allied Provisional Government while Turkey helped invade Armenia.

US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, South Africa, France, Japan, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, post-Austrian Hungary, and Romania all sent troops against the Reds though and sent aid to the Whites.

>Sam Mendes
never had a chance, bros

No holocaust, no watch!
