Welcome to resale.

>I don't know. You have to remember that I have to make a profit.
>Ok, I'll do $75.
>sells for $300

>50 bucks?
*Starts turning it around in his hands*
>It's in great condition but here, see this mini dent that I just saw with my scientific NASA telescope? That's gonna hurt its value.
>I'll give you $5

Point being is that he is there, that day, with cash in hand in some backwater town in fucking Iowa, looking to buy some random piece of shit from the dude that hasn't touched it, let alone thought about it in years. If then they go on to resell the same item for a huge return, that means they took the time to find a buyer willing to fork over the asking price.

>I absolutely love this piece. I HAVE to have it. What were you thinking on this?
>I'd sell it you for 200.
*Looks it over*
>I'll be honest with you I was thinking 1000. It's a great piece.
>Oh wow. Let's do it.
>... Sells it for 1500.

Mike is definitely /OurGuy/.

This. Also you have to keep the lights on. In high school I worked at a trading card shop and pinko fucks always bitched about us scamming people b/c cash payout is %15-%25 of market value, sometimes we'd go up to %50 for shit we knew we could offload quick. But we have to keep the brick and mortar running so you have a convenient place to hock your garbage quickly for crack money. In buying your garbage, I'm also taking on all risk that it could absolutely tank in value the second I buy it from you. Not having a basic understanding of these economic principles is why most of you will never advance in life.

This. If you're hocking your own possessions because you're in need of money, you're doing it wrong.

as a bong I must say that this is one of the few good things left on telly. Danielle is fucking annoying though.

The other posts here also forget that these guys have culled a nationwide index of buyers through their years of experience in the trade, which allows them to inflate pricing since they buy items on many occasions with specific buyers in mind, knowing they can charge a premium for the legwork of actually finding the items themselves. They know their clientele well enough to know what to look out for and the market values within reason.

Danielle is literally a character played by an actress invented for the show

they did this on Pawn Stars and Counting Cars too

>If you're hocking your own possessions because you're in need of money

ESPECIALLY in a world in which craigslist, ebay, and facebook marketplace exist. If you're selling your shit directly to a dealer, you deserve to get fleeced for being so outstandingly retarded/lazy.

The only qualifier for that is a lot of times these guys on American Pickers are in areas that are incredibly sparsely populated, so Craigslist and FB wouldn't have nearly the same type of action elsewhere, and ebay might turn people off with inflated shipping prices, or the seller taking a hit eating that cost to have the shipping free for the buyer.
>not to mention a lot of the people they buy from are elderly people that probably wouldn't trust or know how to list their items online anyways, or sons/daughters looking to offload their parents' shit as quick as possible for a few easy bucks

>Pawn Stars
>Subway - Eat Fresh!
>Hawked by those guys where the trimmest of the bunch is Rick, followed by the Old Man, Fat Fuck, and then finally Chumlee

This may just be the worst thing I have ever seen to have ever aired on the history channel.

I was never aware of that. It's clear that there are many scripted moments, but I just assumed she was an entitled fat bitch.

A bucket with dirt and jizz-stained napkins? That's 50 bucks right there.

>if i don't get to play with THIS GI JOE I'm going HOME

>the gun that shot Abraham Lincoln dead?
>oh i don't know it'll be hard to find a buyer for this kind of stuff the best i can do is 5 bucks

>it's a production team place a fire bomb in one of the garages episode

*scams poor hicks out of thousands of dollars*
