It's a bit of a shame that they're not using true orthochromatic film for this, but it's probably not available in the quantity or format they need. Rollei sells an ISO 25 ortho film in 35mm and 120, but it's a low-volume niche thing that costs a fortune. A filter will get pretty close though.

The black and white seems dishonest. Old school black and white movies don't look like that. Why even have the movie be black and white in the first place? If the movie makers back then had have had the ability to film in color they would have done so. Other then that the trailer looked fine.

It had quality jumpscares and a lot of symbolisms. That makes it great.

The problem with this comparison is that a lot of old movies from the 20s and 30s are digitized from a regular print, not the negative or the studio safety print. In many cases they are lost, or too damaged/fragile to run through a machine. Vampyr in particular looks like trash because the source material isn't very good (even though it was filmed with a soft and hazy look). Still, modern film has much more dynamic range, so highlights won't clip (go pure white) like they used to. Also, old film had very low ISO (light sensitivity), so all old films were shot in super bright conditions. The Lighthouse was shot on Kodak Double-X, a contemporary 200-250 ISO film, so modern light techniques can be used.

Next thing you know, you autists will be slinging poo about the fact that it wasn't filmed with a hand-cranked camera at 20 FPS.

I thought it actually looks quite similar to old films restored by Criterion. I think Sunrise was the first film that came to my mind when I watched this trailer.
