i really feel like not even the author understood what made early hnk good or how good it was. i feel like he thought he was just ripping off tropes, but it all just somehow worked really well and ended up being one of the most distinctive anime shows of all time.

All this movie needed to have in order to be perfect would be gratuitous shots of dummies filled with super market meat and canned food blowing up. The fact that they pussy out by cutting short the scenes that come remotely close to that means they didn't know what the fuck they were doing.
