Perfect films

>Perfect films

Probably the fastest I've ever felt a three hour movie go by.

Chinatown
The Apartment
Manhattan
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Sideways
The Third Man
Barry Lyndon
After Hours

all films I personally consider perfect

totally agree. They unironically don't make movies like this anymore, film is dead

>nazis are bad guys

cringe

>Probably the fastest I've ever felt a three hour movie go by.
Thats down to good editing, Kurosawa's films are like that.

They Live
Doctor Doolittle (original)
LA Confidential
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Raising Arizona
Casablanca

>he is on the losers side
lmao warlet

The Nazis win in this movie.

>The Truman Show
>American Psycho
>The Proposition
>Layer Cake
>LA Confidential
>Drive (unironically)
There's a lot more I could probably add but I've seen all of these several times and they only get better with rewatching.

La Grande Illusion

The only perfect movies (so far):

Hiroshima, Mon Amour
Vertigo
Zabriskie Point
Gummo
The Discrete Charm of the Bourgeoisie
Late Spring
Mirror
2001: A Space Odyssey

My definition of a perfect movie is when there is nothing to add or remove, no thoughts on changes that could improve it, and exceeds expectations in the innovation of the medium.

City lights
Citizen Kane
Ladri di biciclette
12 Angry Men
Au hasard Balthazar
Persona
Dr strangelove
The Godfather
Apocalypse Now
Star Wars The empire strikes back
Raging bull
Raiders of the lost ark
Robocop
Schindler's list
Eyes wide shut
Mulholland drive
No country for old men
The social network
Sicario

I hate to use this fag term, but this movie is basically what journalists refer to as competence porn to me.

I just like to sit down and watch people do their jobs well. Never happens in civilian life.

Contributing a pefect movie to the list here boss.

>Star Wars
>Schindler's List
>The Social Network
>Sicario
You have to be kidding.

Papilion added to the Newman greats list.

>After Hours
what makes that movie so perfect? I only read the title and have the whole story and visuals before my eyes. Truly a masterpiece

If you love The Good the Bad and the Ugly, I highly recommend Once Upon A Time In the West. It takes everything that made the Dollars Trilogy good, and then improves on it. The character motivations are more clear, the characters themselves are more real, the setting is very grounded, and ultimately it shows how much he learned from producing the Dollars Trilogy.

>>Star Wars
if you mean Star Wars (1977) you are trolling. It has some of the worst dialogue ever
>"Don't get shot by the enemy!"
Terrific stuff.

yul was a-list status following the king and i and ten commandments
steve was still up and coming

theres people who have watched the social network 20+ times and think it holds up.

Butthurt prequel zoomer

Sorcerer (stfu french autists)
Jaws
Point Break

I don't like Star Wars, that's why i highlighted it.
>and exceeds expectations in the innovation of the medium.
Where and what

you could take out all of the plot and the characters from the sorcerer and it would still be worth watching.

Every scene in those movies is relevant to the plot, the editing and timing seem flawless and the original score of these particular movies (except Sicario) is some of the best ever and blends perfectly with the narrative and the visuals. Ill try to nitpick some flaws.
>Empire strikes back is a children's fairy tale in space and there should be no sound in space also it has weird aliens.
>Schindler's list is disonest emotional manipulator of a fIlm, probably propaganda, at times the violence seems comical. (Honestly why I respect this movies directing, it's so over the top sappy.)
>The social network is a movie about facebook and characters talk like they have time to come up with smart dialogue and don't sound like real people. (It's a good character study on the human condition of socialisation for sex, ambition and friendship, the Facebook angle denies it from being a masterpiece.)
>Sicario has so little flaws that it makes it flawed, the ending is too perfect, so much satisfaction and closure for a movie that appears so shallow.

Very based post

I love Sicario as a whole but I usually find myself just rewatching the Juarez/border sequence over and over. Jeffery Donovan's character is just so perfect.

This is a good thread. I would like to submit a few:

Xanadu
Blue Velvet
Pi
Dead Poets Society
The Elephant Man

>Gone With The Wind
Definitely could have done with a trimming of the dialogue. Some scenes you can see the actors almost talking over each other to get out the large amount of lines.

I think the opposite needed to happen. Slow it down and lengthen the film. Make it something that takes a whole working day to watch. Add another two intermissions and that should do it.
