no. he's a hero afterwards and jody foster's parents are writing him a thank you letter.

Hollywood jews killed him for trying to stop their child prostitution ring

He appears again in Goodfellas and in Casino, so he made it alive.

No. Hes alive and hes still gonna have a meltdown later on.

No retard

Yes, its very naive to think what followed after was real. It was his dying dream.

spotted the jew

cringe

Paul Schrader said the ending is real, you can also see the scar on his neck.

he was not am die at end
he was not die

That would defeat the entire purpose of the film. It’s about how he did something (arguably) noble for his own fucked up and selfish reasons, but everyone praises him for it.

its irrelevent
no one cares about the white knight autist

I dont see how the story makes sense if this didnt "happen", theres nothing in the movie at all with elements of fantasy or dream imagery. Of course it happened, the fact that it happened and he's still a miserable lonely taxi driver after makes a larger point.

He didn't but the last shot of the movie reveals he is probably going to go on a killing spree again.

He didn't die and it's not supposed to be ambiguous either. I think all this speculation reflects poor execution on the director or the writer's part.

I dont think so, I think audiences are just fucking retarded. For example, I saw this movie when I was 14 first because I heard its a good movie, I didnt have the emotional maturity to even have a basic understanding of what Travis was feeling or why, so the ending made little to no logical sense to me and I just asumed it didnt really happen. Now that I'm older I get it, and it plays out well, but if you're retarded and just "going along" with the movie it will lead to not getting the ending.

After watching it for the first time, I assume he had died or was in a coma. But after reading comments from people associated with the film...he lived. He wasn't dreaming.

Seems ridiculous to me that Cybil Shepard's character would get in his taxi and allow him to see where she lives. None of that makes any sense. She knows he is crazy. That was my only problem with the movie.

But yeah. He lived. He is a ticking time-bomb. The movie ends like it began.

But the whole movie feels dreamlike,
it's made to mimic an autistic daydream, following a guy who actually goes through with it

She sees him as a hero like everyone else for saving Iris. No one knew that he would have just as happily shot the politician as he did with the pimp.

It was extremely painful.
