The Rock is recruited to stop Idris Elba, a rogue MI6 supersoldier. Vanessa Kirby, who is Jason Statham's sister, is also after him. Statham goes to help her at the request of their mother Helen Mirren.
Rock, Statham and Kirby fight Elba a bunch of times in London and learn he wants a virus to wipe out half of humanity so Earth can become stronger. They track him down to a secret lab, steal the virus and hide with Rock's family in Samoa, where Statham's weapons-dealing fuckbuddy Eiza Gonzalez supplies them with guns.
Elba and his army attack Samoa for the virus but get defeated by Rock, Statham, Kirby and Rock's family. Big fights, chases and explosions and in the end Rock kills Elba with the virus after a big threeway battle.
Rock and Statham become buddies, Rock retires to be his daughter, Kirby goes back to the MI6, Statham moves to the U.S. with a clean slate. After-credits scene reveals that Elba was working with Charlize Theron's character from FF8 who has a new plan to destroy the FAMIGLIA.

Apparently Reynolds is playing Dwayne's old CIA buddy who recruits him to stop Idris and Hart is playing a helicopter pilot friend of Dwayne's who takes the team to Idris' lair, and they're both expected to return for HOBBS & SHAW 2.
Dwayne is building his own FAMIGLIA to compete with Diesel.

I remember watching a teaser trailer for this movie way before the recent trailers dropped and I'm sure it was under a different name with a different premise. It was set in a futuristic post apocalyptic world and the rock and statham were recruited because they were 'old school' and could get the job done or something. Am I just crazy or was this another movie that they decided to spin into another FF movie at the last minute?
