Michael is great in Halloween 1 and that's it. His concept and what it takes only works for one movie. After that you'd need to expand on him in some way in order for it to not just be a retread but doing so also takes away from his limited appeal. His films also take him so seriously that they can't reasonably play with the tone at all. He's the neckbeard's slasher, he has specific rules that make him work and any deviation from them makes his fans chimp. This is why Halloween III and the Rob Zombie films are maligned despite being interesting in their own right, and Halloween (2018) is praised, despite being a glorified fan service film with nothing of note that isn't in homage to the first.

Of course it's what Jason's known for but there it works because it's not grounded. His films are intentionally sleazy and unrealistic. Part of the conceit of Michael is that he's just a guy. A guy with above-average strength, but a guy. That technically also applies to Jason in the first few films but he was potentially a zombie in those already.

The difference is that Freddy doesn't lose his outfit as much as Michael. Michael having the same outfit across sequels that are directly after one another is fine but him specifically going after that mask and that mechanic outfit everytime. Sure, Jason does that with hockey masks too but that's in line with the tone his films go for.

Guys....I watched Halloween and I thought it was a horrible movie with only the cinemetoghry being great, the acting was alright, and setting comfy, everything else was horrible
The pacing, the fact that they dont give you any reason to care for any of the characters, boring slow chases, repetitive music for most of it, I could go on but i think ive made my point
