Atlantis really got me into star gate. Watch it first, then SG-1.

Sad thing is that a darker more serious Stargate could of worked very well. A handful(less than 5 I can think of) of the episodes in SGU were actually well done. Overall though, it was just generic soap opera writing with some generic actors thrown in there who obviously didn't care about their role.

The entire SGU thing was a shitshow from inception until the last episode aired.
From suddenly canceling Atlantis instead of giving it 1 final season on the last day of shooting the last episode to be filmed Vegas and destroying the set while everyone was away, to the producers threatening to permanently shelve a SGA and 3rd SG1 movie (which MGM shelved anyways) if the fans didnt stop talking shit about SGU and started watching the show and get other people to watch it as well.

Greed and the need to chase the newest fad at the time (BSG tier drama) killed the series and MGM having butterfingers along with chasing the current fads (everything is woke, girl power yeah) will keep it dead

Stargate was already a ripoff of some canned movie script, I don't think they would have risked going to court against Disney.

I couldn't stand David Hewlett half-way through the show. The character became a caricature and Hewlett was overacting everytime.
As for Higginson, I'll always respect the actress for having the balls to leave the show as a big fuck you to the writers for having done nothing with her character.

The other male characters grow on ya since they all kinda bounce their interactions and such off of each other, unfortunately Teyla just kinda sucks the life out of a room if she plays to big of a part in scene.
Nice actress, nice looking, beautiful voice, shallow storyline that flounders and no real job on the team other than to exist and an extra pair of hands to shoot a gun.

The pitch for the Atlantis movie sucked.

I always hated that they never took any risk with Atlantis. If it was up to me, I would've destroyed a part of the city, forcing them to stay on a planet and establish other bases throughout Pegasus. I would also have limited the exchanges between the two galaxies and forced the Atlantis expedition to create new alliances with other alien races (it would also allow Teyla to get a more important role instead of being a background extra like in seasons 2 to 5).

The Deadalus Deus Ex supply line was a terrible choice. It completely negated the fact the show was supposed to take place in another galaxy

MGM at some point had to come down and tell em to stop threatening the fanbase, ultimately what killed the SGA movie and the 3rd SG1 movie was MGM itself being terrible at maintaining money and going into yet another bankruptcy.

I agree, that's why I enjoyed SGU. They stayed true to its initial pitch. The Icarus people could remain in contact with Homeworld Command but the technology was limited. No infinite supplies or reset button.

SG-1 should've ended with Season 8. I would trade the last two seasons of SG-1 to have had two more seasons of Atlantis.

The writers were tired of writing comedy adventure style scifi and wanted to try drama. They literally said as much in multiple interviews. I guess saw bsg and thought they could do better. It was basically like dnd saying fuck it to got and moving on to starwars.

The problem is the Goold went downhill fast, Apophis was a real jobber. Baal was amusing but not really threatening, Anubis was based though.

In the first season sure, then they became as weak as the Goa'ulds, way too easy to kill. Once Earth got access to the Asgard energy beam they could one-shot the hive ships.

Brad Wright should've hired writers who could write drama and characters from day 1. Mallozzi & Mullie can't write adult characters and relationships, I mean look at the teenage-tier relationships on Atlantis.

If the body swap stones didn't exist it would of solved a lot of the shows issues. They needed to be more like star trek Voyager. Yeah the characters miss home and spend a minute here or there mentioning it. But the episodes aren't just 40 minutes of bitching, fucking, and crying in that order.
