Kutner’s suicide, while rushed and obviously done to write him off still had important effects on House’s character development. It traumatized House which gave him hallucinations, which sent him to the looney bin and got him off drugs, which got him with Cuddy, etc.
Its hard to imagine the way House’s story goes from S5-8 without Kutner

Why was this show so fucking entertaining?

House kind of nailed it and the last few seasons showed that there isn't a whole lot more that can be done with the genre. Give it a few years and enough people will forget about it that some new version of the show can take its place.

House had psychosis, so he was suffering from both delusions (thinking he slept with Cuddy when it didn’t happen) and hallucinations (seeing things that weren’t there)
It was likely he was consciously aware at the time that he was alone popping pills, what we see is his delusional memories the morning after, played for dramatic effect
