That may be true, but his audience seems to think otherwise. You only have to take a look at the opinions expressed on this very board to know that people genuinely believe his films amount more than to just big budget schlock, and Tarantino knows that and plays the game accordingly.

Movie violence is unrealistic and boring and only hacks like Tarantino rely on it as a crutch to intrigue limp wristed normies who are too pussy to watch real violence but adore fake movie violence. I recently showed a self professed horror aficionado friend of mine the video of the guy who gets hit by the train and bisected by a pole on the platform and he nearly cried: this same faggot also clapped and cheered at Hostel and Saw films.

In the sense that dfw described postmodernism in relation to pop-culture and literature, not really. Postmodernism in this case refers to a universal acceptance of irony and cynicism. He often spoke of "new sincerity" in contrast to postmodernism which eschewed major tenets of postmodernism, namely insincerity, meta-narratives, pessimism and skepticism.
