Two completely different filmmakers. Lee has ideas and although they're not always quite as polished as he'd like them to be, he's an authentic filmmaker and true master of his craft. Tarantino is merely content regurgitating rehashed movie tropes and cliches all the while relying on shock value and being overly-violent. If you want to eat popcorn and be entertained for two hours, Tarantino is your guy, granted you're the type of person who's easily entertained by onscreen gore and depravity. If you want an engaging film that delves into the territory of the human condition through brilliantly crafted character studies, while exploring a wide gamut of themes, then Lee makes more sense. The only comparison one can make between the two is that they're both "independent" filmmakers with a preference for raw, unadulterated filmmaking. But the same could be said for a lot of the indie filmmakers of their era (late 80s, early 90s).

I don't know. I liked Jungle Fever, Clockers and Summer of Sam. But it seems like he lost his touch a long time ago. More like a one trick pony.

Fuck Lee. There were two Lee movies that played over and over on HBO when I was a kid. One was Get On The Bus where a disgusting half breed (and that's the way the film portrays it) rides a bus to the Million Man March with real black men trying to subvert they struggle with his very existence.
The other one was some weird movie where a group of black people regularly kidnap other black people for not acting black enough and torture/brainwash them into acting more appropriately with their skin tone. Putting they black ass back on the Democrat Plantation as it were.
The other Lee film I watched one time was 48 Hours. A boring ass movie that literally felt like 48 hours of watching Edward Norton crying about going to jail for selling a whole lot of heroine and then a remake of Old Boy.
Even though it's my favorite Lee film that's not saying much as it's still a soulless re-hash of a Korean movie that I never liked much to begin with. What's next. Spike Lee presents: The Raid but in the Ghetto? Dude is whack and played out. It's either black, blackedy, black, black,black or what other people have already done but lamer 'cause it ain't his to begin with.

He lost his touch, because he ran out of stories set in NYC, he never grew as a storyteller past that period of his life, growing up. He's tried to, but he's either not talented enough, or his head is jammed to far up his own ass, and he's huffed himself retarded on his own farts. Or both.
Tarantino can remake "homages" to the thousands of movies he's watched, forever.
I still think his best movie was Crooklyn, because it was semi-autobiographical. Sadly, it's overlooked by his "message!" movies.

Can’t even compare. Tarantino even with all the cliches, stolen scenes and homages is by far a better writer/director and will be remembered as such for a long time. Half of Lee’s movies arent even auteur cinema and the other half are mostly (with maybe two exceptions) complete junk. Besides Tarantino hasn’t made a bad movie, only bad for his standards and of course Yea Forums whatever it means.
