First of all, you're mixing up Batgirl and Batwoman from the 50s with the 60s version. Barbara Gordon was specifically created to be used in the TV show. And Batman sales had been going down for years until the TV show revitalized them for a bit. And the TV show did not bomb because of Batgirl, the issue was entirely that Batman '66 was a very brief pop culture phenomenon, and was milked to death, so of course people quickly lost interest once the novelty died. That being said, the ratings were still good enough that the show would have continued on another network had not several of the sets already been destroyed, which made the channel switch too expensive to go through with. So Batgirl in no way killed the show, fucktard.

Yet somehow they made two complete new seasons of Batman after the shows went from Fox to WB network, and now featured Batgirl more prominently. Cartoon back then tended to run only a handful of seasons.

The issues with B&R had nothing to do with Batgirl being in it, if anything she's the last thing anyone really even talks about when the movie comes up. The core problem was entirely that WB was dictating the movie to be as kiddie friendly and toetic as possible, and imitating the 60s TV show, which is not what people wanted.
