I think it's a conflagration of two factors.
1. Donald Trump triggers him (hard). This is inderstandable.
2. He was put on a bigger show on a bigger network. They expect bigger numbers than they did on Comedy Central. And the way the modern news economy works is outrage 24/7. Jon Stewart talked a lot about this.

So, of course, outrage gets better ratings. He gets mad at a Trump policy so the network eggs him on and gets him nice and mad and he goes on camera and all the jokes are born from his outrage. I feel him falling apart.

Its like watching a modern version of Network (1976) live on TV every night.
