If you think about it, Captain America could've been reverted back to a young man, as we saw with Ant Man and the Hulk's machine. I'm also guessing Dr. Strange alone could've taken out Thanos simply by opening a portal to his gauntlet arm and closing. There's a lot of things that could've happened, but didn't. It is what it is.
