Trigger discipline wasn't even a widespread thing until around the 1980s so having Napoleonic era soldiers practicing it would actually be anachronistic. Some countries supposedly still don't use it. I'm told the Russians press their finger against the inside of the guard as opposed to removing it entirely and putting it alongside the trigger.
