Can anyone help me understand the flaw that I see. Why are they heroes? They seem self involved to care about anything. The only upside I can see for them is fame. Money they can get in other ways. Doesn't seem like fame is enough motivation to be a hero though.

The Boys is a comic about a shadow force of vigilantes who blackmail and keep the actual super heroes in check. So for example if Iron Man was running around being a dick, the Boys would pop in and stomp his nuts in for example. And there were probably several heroes who got castrated in the comic.

I always felt the Boys was overly cynical and mean spirited, I think the series does a fantastic job by dialing that back and greatly fleshing out the characters beyond being childishly cruel

She's still the same character, cute asian girl who doesn't speak a word and can cut yourself in half just like mowing the lawn. But it seems she only got turned into a supe fairly recently. The Boys stumbled upon her locked in a room while following a lead on something else, Frenchie set her free then tracked her down and talked to her. So they just met her, and her friendship with Frenchie is only starting, but yeah she's pretty much the same character.

The change to his character is strange. It makes him more interesting but point of his character in the comic was all ego. He did try to save the plane and ended up splinting it in 2. The whole "lesson" was that you can give people powers but that won't turn them into physics experts. In the show he just references it as a possibility and it does not really seem like his fault.

He wasn't really in it much, 2bh. He's just memorable because the fight he had was so intense. Really it's quite appropriate, because he was obviously supposed to represent the WWII origins of most superhero comics and the types of foes the good guys would fight.

In fact, when I think about it, it's smart to have him be the genesis of all the heroes in The Boys, because that's what the golden age was.

So far I loved doom patrol, and the boys is looking great

game of thrones used to have full on nudity with ass play. more popular it got the more they cut down in it. This show has nothing out of the gate

Is the comic worth a read? The only superhero comic I've ever read was this one random issue of Spiderman.

The boys is meant to be one of the best american comics with an ongoing plot, but infact after the initial 10-15 issues or something the plot doesn't go anywhere until the last 10 issues (in a 50 issue series) and even then they build up to this big , climactic, super-hero coup civil-war conflict that is over in 2 or 3 issues.

and then the mentor character tries to kill all his friends with no convincing motivation whatsoever.

The series does not deserve anything higher than a 6/10. That's a really generous score for it.

It's just pathetic how starved of good long-form stories american comics are. It's so easy to find far better seinen manga than the kind of mediocre trash that gets praised in america/britain.

If anyone wants to read some good comics that are far better than The Boys I am very happy to broaden your horizons and give out recommendations.

It's literally just 7/10. The Terror is already a show that is much better and it has been a few months. it has some great moments but shit gets really stale too often in the entire season. Also what the fuck is the point of that rom-drama plot point, like yikes stop wasting my time. i'll probably check out season 2

Hughie is a poorly written character. He's supposed to be traumatized by Robin's death and guilt stricken over his part in Translucent's death but his ptsd only shows up when it's convenient to the plot and then it's absent in every other scene.

i speed-read through the comics and it has some interesting plot twists

Backstory Butcher his wife was raped by the Homelander. His wife's mortal body wasn't strong enough to bring the superhuman child to term. It tore through her stomach. The Butcher has two round scars on his arm from its eye lasers from killing it.

Backstory: The Female during infancy gained her powers by drinking an entire jug of synthethic V compound solution when she snuck out of her mother's secretary office and into a research lab because her mother who was too cheap to hire a sitter

Backstory Black Noir is actually an insane perfect clone of the Homelander. it is revealed that many of the Seven have part of the Homelander's DNA and were created by the Vought-American company which explained how they were unusually quick to form a team. Later the Homelander goes on a crazy murder-spree after believing he did all those horrendous things but was unable to remember it. He believes he was able to get away with anything. He feels some remorse after it is revealed the Black Noir did all his crimes while wearing the Homelander's costume. Black Noir kills the Homelander before dying to a lot of gunfire.

Maeve is burned out but while she was together with the Homelander, he played a prank on her to blindfold her and tricked her into having sex with Black Noir. She becomes vengeful and sleeps with a whole lot of people. She doesn't care about anything anymore. She is aware of what's happening but chooses to ignore it. But she does have a sweet spot for Starlight after she comes into Maeve's defends.

Season 1 was good but if they don't really amp it up in season 2 this show is basically going to fail. I can't see the normalfags being very into it either

They don’t have 5 seasons of stuff to work with. They already skipped a bunch of stuff. The show isn’t bad by any means but it’s not a good adaptation of the comic. It’s more like a cucked spiritual successor. The show has done some things better and somethings worse but i feel like it missed a lot of the points that made the comic interesting. At the end of the day it’s still 100 percent worth watching.
