I'm in the States (formerly Leaf) and walked into the states. Saw the 50% sale and bought Police Story & Punch Drunk Love.
Any other worthwhile Criterions while I'm here?

where at?
Holy fuck. I've never seen Criterion in an American store. Is this in a major city?
>Criterion
barnes and noble has them
My pretentiousness about books and avoiding B&N for being a gigantic Starbucks/Funko Pop center has fucked me. I should visit mine tomorrow.
I wonder if the Godzilla Showa collection is a part of the sale. That's all I need, and then I'll have the entire series.
>worthwhile Criterions
Most of them, but especially "Dekalog (1988)" and the "Three Colors" collection. Kieślowski is the best thing to happen to Criterion.
Except for King Kong vs Godzilla. That's owned by Universal.
Stalker and Solaris if you can find them
Is Three Colors actually any good, or is it one of those pretentious movies pick for their #1 to look smart, like Tarkovsky's Mirror?
thats not even out yet but there is usually a sale during november
machbet and scanners
Hausu and Cronenberg kino
the criterion site says thats part of the collection
criterion.com
That's in the collection too.
Nothing like Mirror. They're actually all good. General consensus is Blue is the best, but to be honest, White and Red dominate it in much more subtle ways. They're all very well done in every department and aren't meant to be pretentious, but it *might* be harder to grasp or feel okay with as an American since Kieślowski is hardcore European perspective.
no its much dumber than mirror, or should we say krzysztof kieslowski is the tarkovsky for millenials. now that tark became a meme and watching stalker and andrei rublev is no longer prestigious they jerk off to dekalog and the colors trilogy
>now that tark became a meme and watching stalker and andrei rublev is no longer prestigious they jerk off to dekalog and the colors trilogy
Literally nobody does this. Everyone jacks off to Stalker on this board and reddit every single day.
Had no idea this was gonna be a thing. Might keep an eye out for it.
why the fuck hasn't Criterion put Come and See on blu ray yet?
Sale is @ Barnes and Nobles until August 4th.
going tomorrow thanks for this thread
vengeance is mine is kino
i thought buying criterions a meme
I mean you can download it and save money, but purchasing now is more based off of the principal and/or the quality. I haven't purchased any, but I haven't purchased any media in a long time. If I were to buy any blu-ray though, it'd be Criterion or something related. Leaving the market completely to Disney means we stop seeing great films brought to a better format. As well, some people don't really care about that and just want their kino in the highest physical quality possible. Some people just like staring at a big collection on shelves. There's a lot of okay reasons.
Why yes I also do love the burnout series.
seems like a waste of $30 so i can show off my collection to people on the internet
That'd be your own reason. I wouldn't agree with it, but you do you.
Vampyr
Thoughts on buying """""" kino """""" you've never seen?
Few titles I know I'd have a feeling I'd like based on friend recs or genre / Director related stuff but I might buy haven't even seen the film. Complete waste of money?
i’ve never done it but i’m considering it to buy playtime
It could potentially be a waste of money. Jellyfish Eyes comes to mind. That movie was terrible and I'm not sure how anyone at Criterion decided it should make it into the collection.
There are literally six in that picture alone.
If I had to draft up a list of a dozen to get, I’d say:
All That Heaven Allows
Le samouraï
Days of Heaven
Purple Noon
Thief
Ride the Pink Horse
A Brighter Summer Day
Only Angels Have Wings
The Breaking Point
Moonrise
Dietrich and Von Sternberg in Hollywood box
Detour
based I'm going tomorrow, thanks for the heads up user gonna spend money I don't have on Kino
