I actually like how the sequel retconned it so it was all planned. It made the most sense in my headcanon

The book is very different to a degree, that Deckard in the movie is a different character with a same name. In fact, if you'd adapt the book as it is, people would only be thinking if it is a some sort of a sequel to Blade Runner.

It had an interesting setting, which 2049 also has (obviously). The replicant hunt was mediocre at best, and Roy Batty's speech at the end doesn't salvage it.
