Long live the king

>japanese capeshit
Absolutely a waste of 1000.

I tried watching a few of these films and all of them were shitty

Nice, I think I'll have to buy that

Well deserved. Fuck the snobs getting mad about it.

Pathetic, but I guess it's hard to resist an opportunity to get money from manchildren

based Godzilla Jr. is now an historic part of the pseudo-intellectual collection

Lame

Is the first Godzilla actually a classic like people say or is it manchild shit?

It’s honestly one of the more objectively good kaiju movies. I’d say it’s on par with the 30s Kong in America.

>criterion
>snobs
LMAO!
one of the worst nu-male Vice aids shooting avocado munchin double matcha frappuccino salted caramel slurping faggot labels on this planet.
this label ate shit and kicked the bucket when they released Armageddon on laserdisc in 1999 and continue to shit out literally who c-list dreck from the 50s becaue that's so avant garde and hip now and don't forget pic related.
in the past 10 years their transfers have been more often than not inferior to other labels and their hipster-numale artists' original cover work is just atrocious.

What the actual fuck?
Why not 2001 or The assassination of Jesse james???

Criterion is about preservation you fucking virgins. Having them all restored and released in a single package is important.

this

Tiny Furniture was good though.

>trashy jap capeshit
>important

Based retard

I recently started watching the old Godzilla films, always wanted to get into kaiju. I stopped because Godzilla Raids Again fucking sucked.

I can't wait to purchase this.

Between Criterion, Shout/Scream Factory, Vinegar Syndrome, Kino Lorber and MVD Rewind we're living in a golden age of physical media.

Pic related is getting a special edition next year.

My GF is really into Godzilla and got me to watch some this summer. Honestly don't go in order; watch some from the Heisei and Millennium eras first because they're more accessible imo.

Keep going. Once the films enter the 60's they really start becoming more watchable.

Even Godzilla's Revenge is worth it for the silliness if it all. When moreso with the included commentary track with some Godzilla expert.

Is someone watched Zatoichi movies in full?

>tfw not Mousehunt

God-tier get. Nothing deserved it more.

Attached: 1563676500922.jpg (1000x750, 175K)

Zatoichi Movies are kino

>All
Even King Kong vs Godzilla?

Yep, both versions confirmed.

Waste of time. Some like to watch it with English dub but you always lose something. Usually a couple scenes and original music.

>Criterion, Shout/Scream Factory, Vinegar Syndrome, Kino Lorber and MVD Rewind
>Doesn't mention Arrow Video
They are by far the best label when it comes to genre films and IMO Godzilla would have fitted way better in their catalog

absolutely based kaiju chads just keep winning
gaijin SEETHING

Yeah, Arrow is good.

Can't wait for their release of The Prey.

After all it is the kaiju renaissance.

It's not like they can get the rights to any film they want you dummy

Sadly we may never see the director's cut of Jesse James. Maybe, if we're lucky, full cut of Once Upon a time in America.

anyone have a high quality rip webm of the atomic pulse?

>Showa-era
Sure why not. There's some great movies in there but I would be lying if I said I remember most of them outside of the monsters, and even some of those memories are fuzzy.

Godzilla is a milestone in Eastern cinema and a household name. Fuck off.

noice

Attached: 1560225593848.png (340x370, 128K)

cool, I'll pirate it

Based piratechad.

>Godzilla is a milestone in Eastern cinema
lol try watching real movies
>and a household name
Yeah, because the franchise is a joke to everyone besides weeb aspies

This is the saddest bait I've seen in days.

It's honestly great

I think it was an actual thing some people in USA (that had usually shitty Americanized versions) believed at some point before original versions got wide release. Mostly old people who remember just the 70s movies (or their reruns).

I agree with Kurosawa who put it on his list of best movies in history.

A goo goo goo. More buzzwords in a small paragraph than in a tumblr blogpost. Emberresing.

>RUBBER SUITS!!!! YAAASSS!!!

Attached: 1516318638735.gif (452x371, 59K)

YESSS, I FUCKING LOVE GODZILLA, GREAT CHOICE FOR #1000, CRITERION!

Attached: 1557510056632.png (1250x1000, 567K)

You're absolutely delusional if you think this franchise is well known because people enjoy watching them like kaiju autists do.

Most people see a Jap Godzilla movie and laugh at how bad it is.

WHAT THE FUCK. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVE.

Yeah it's still really depressing

But the feeling of owning it in physical form. Its like having sex while pirating the digital version is cheap masturbating.

Attached: Lea Seydoux Painting_Auction.jpg (640x742, 109K)

>still desperately trying to involve these movies with some anti-sjw culture war meme

Attached: 1561167999742.png (382x452, 163K)

Fitting because I can only afford the latter not for the lack of trying.

You have to be 18 to post here sir.

All of them are already available in bluray anyway. Criterion can be all over the place with their quality; some of their releases are actually garbage. I think I'll stick with piracy, thanks.

simple plot but heavily emotional

both of those things can apply to MCU/DCU. doesn't make them any less shitty lmao.

The preservation of film history is important yes.

I'm way more hyped for the Häxan bluray that comes out in October!

Attached: WU2TTrhW3pd1lKQ9tk4zH4b20JSv40_large.jpg (1288x1600, 1.1M)

Really nice cover.

How many version can we have? Usually they release stuff when they have some new footage. This is what happened with Nosferatu, Metropolis, Golem (sort of) and The Lost World. The Phantom got first release of the original 1925 version some time ago (but still with the second ending) some time ago.

And still not a single anime film. Makes you think.

satoshi kon boxset soon brother

Akira was a laserdisc

I don't really understand why people are bashing the Godzilla series so much. It's essentially antithetical to modern capeshit having been made overseas by the same crews that made the Kurosawa films and are much more individualistic than cookie cutter capeshit.

Y'know Godzilla is actually a metaphor for nukes.

Häxan's a special case because it hasn't been released on bluray yet.

Special features:

>On the Blu-ray: New 2K digital restoration
>On the DVD: Digital transfer
>Music from the original Danish premiere, arranged by film-music specialist Gillian Anderson and performed by the >Czech Film Orchestra in 2001, presented in 5.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray and in Dolby Digital 5.0 on the DVD
>Audio commentary from 2001 featuring film scholar Casper Tybjerg
>Witchcraft Through the Ages (1968), the seventy-six-minute version of Häxan, narrated by author William S. Burroughs, with a soundtrack featuring violinist Jean-Luc Ponty
>Director Benjamin Christensen’s introduction to the 1941 rerelease
>Short selection of outtakes
>Bibliothèque Diabolique: a photographic exploration of Christensen’s historical sources
>PLUS: An essay by critic Chris Fujiwara, remarks on the score by Anderson, and (Blu-ray only) an essay by scholar Chloé Germaine Buckley

The fact that a couple morons are trying to push it on Yea Forums (they were doing the same before KotM and failed spectacularly each thread turned into a normal Godzilla discussion) means it has to be popular and it is more than ever in fact. More international but we shouldn't expect as many movies as in the 60s.

Huh, perhaps animation isn't just for kids anymore

Attached: Akira-Laser-Disc-The-Criterion-Collection-Anime-Katsuhiro.jpg (400x300, 30K)

It's only liked by fetishists who want a giant man in a lizard suit to step on them.

Hyped for the new 4k restoration

And for the anime remake. I never got around to watch the original because I heard that lots of stuff was cut from the movie now I will have both versions to compare.

Yes, MCU and DCU are absolutely milestones of Eastern cinema.

I remember wanting a girlfriend like her as a kid. I haven't seen the film since then.

>People think Godzilla is good
Cringe.
Watch some true kino Jap films weebs

Neat.

Pretty sure it was always between a Godzilla boxset and Citizen Kane for spine 1000

Because they wanted to do something special besides just releasing something that's critically acclaimed.

SKEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOONK SKEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOONK

Attached: godzilla 1278662422274.jpg (433x500, 218K)

Other popular option on twitter was Buster Keaton boxset. It was proposed by Silent Gifs no big surprise.
