Yes, it can be but you can live in the city on a reasonable budget for much less than what you said. You can find places in Brooklyn for around 1K a month. You don't need a car in the city either so some expenses are cut by living in the city. It certainly isn't a cheap place to live, but it's interesting and there's plenty of shit to do. At this point in my life that's what I'd like to, I'm at a point in my life where I'd like to try something new and try out the city for a while and see how I like it.
