You are correct, notice you used the past tense.

>buy star wars
>make 2 movies
>completely shit on star wars and everything that it stood for in said 2 movies
>gee I wonder why no one cares about our shit park that's a tribute to the aids that killed star wars
I don't know man

Better yet is when tumblr whores deflect criticism by "its not made for you anymore shitlord" then when shit like this happens they go "why are you not buying it?"

So you're saying Star Wars was formerly loved?

Disney's nu wars doesn't count as Star Wars you dummy

I thought it looked pretty cool, but I'm not sure how much of the focus is on the OT era and prequel era, vs the new wars era. I don't care for the latter, and would gladly pay just to enter for a coruscant area alone.

Attached: galaxy edge.png (1075x768, 1.6M)

How much were Star Wars them parks making before the Disney purchase?

Checkmate, incels.

>So you're saying Star Wars was formerly loved?
I thought the franchise would be dead by episode 7-8 max.

>tfw no lucas world

Attached: file.jpg (1280x911, 301K)

To be fair, it costs like $120 for one ticket into Disneyland.

It's more or less entirely nu-Wars as far as I'm aware.

Apparently it was supposed to be "come and hang and have adventures with all your favorite Star Wars characters", but then they switched management close to completion and he got rid of all the "actors".
They basically took Westworld and removed all the androids, so now all you can do is walk around and look at things and buy gift shop tat at 500% markup.

Do you really need an explanation? Here goes...

>nobody wants to fly to Florida to see an unfinished strip of a Disney park, except the unhinged parts of the fandom that came on opening week
>kids don't care about Star Wars anymore, since Marvel is all the rage now, so they don't ask their parents to go to the star wars section
>park only has one shitty ride so nobody wants to see it on the basis of the rides
I don't actually think it reflects the current disillusion with star wars so much, and had they grounded it in the OT or prequels, they'd get a little bit more attendance.

But nobody is actually going to pay a plane ticket to go see a star wars with only one ride. So why is everyone surprised?

>Spielberg "suggested" JJ Abrams for director and Alden Ehrenreich for Solo A Star Wars Story
>Always appearing Star Wars events and hanging behind Lucas

I don't see need to point out the obvious.

there's nothing to do there compared to the rest of the park

>Palpatino's Pizza
>Mustafa
>EXTREME HYPERSPACE!!!!
>some place called Utapa(was that even in the movies?)
Sounds like a fun place.

Yeah Utapau is the planet with big craters where Obi Wan killed grievous (Grievous Drop is a fucking great name for a coaster btw)

Oh yeah, now I remember.
It was a pretty fun Battlefront 2 map as I recall.

These photos are RACIST and SEXIST

yeah interestingly asymmetrical, one side gets hangars with tanks while the other side gets a fortified, elevated position which gives easier access to a crucial control point

It's just a star wars themed shopping center with extreamly overpriced trash.

No, I’m saying it was formerly Chuck’s

Going to theme parks in general is a waste of time and money. You spend up to $80 to get in, but you can only go on like 10 rides the whole day because the lines are so fucking long (unless you spend more money to buy a fast pass to jew your way to the front of lines.) You literally pay to stand in line for over an hour with the hot sun burning you to a crisp. Not to mention all the food and drinks are costly and all the "games" where you win a teddy bear or whatever are stacked against you. Also, there are still parts of theme parks where you have to pay yet AGAIN to get into. Yes, it's true, I've seen it.

Might as well save that money towards a 7 day all-inclusive resort in the caribbean

>both Ehrenreich and JJ are Jews and both are incompetent at their jobs
I smell tribalism/nepotism.

There's nothing STAR WARS in Galaxies Edge. It's set on a Planet that's not in any of the films or shows. There's no Darth Vader or Chewbacca actors walking around. There's no Yoda puppet or anything. There's no memorable scenes recreated.

If it wasn't for the Falcon and a few first order Troopers walking around, you'd have no idea it was even a Star Wars land. If they recreated scenes, locations, characters and rides from the OT, that shit would be at maximum capacity every second of the day. But they didn't, they didn't even fill it with anything from the PT or the ST (Troopers aside.)

>It's set on a Planet that's not in any of the films or shows. There's no Darth Vader or Chewbacca actors walking around. There's no Yoda puppet or anything. There's no memorable scenes recreated.
How could they fuck up so bad?

>Palpatino's Pizza, how do you want your pie, a little on the dark side?
It could've been so based.

My sides

Trenders. Like locusts, they already got their fill of selfies and souvenirs and have now moved on to another product after sucking this one dry.

I'd go there just because it's unpopular. Nice and spacious, can give my girlfriend kissies, no black people getting into fights

Maybe they saved money licencing and other legalities stuff like that if they made it all new.

Who was in charge of this fuckup?

Why not you know, not go and save your money and kiss your girlfriend in a less costly and pointless location?

It's obvious hes trying to sabotage it for Georgie

It's not Anchorhead on Tattooine, Yavin IV or Courasant, Who gives a fuck?

It’s not Star Wars season. When episode 9 comes around, it’ll be booming. Same thing with merch and toy sales.

>Most popular thing about your new parking lot style attraction is the Cantina bar
Makes sense. If I payed money to wander a strip mall I'd want to drink too.

Reminder that Vader impersonators can never show up walking around because muh younglings.

Better than that is when they lick disneys boot about their sjw garbage but claim to hate corporations. God i hate everything having to do with nerd culture in 2019. Id rather just watch david lynch movies than deal with all this cancer

Probably white male virgins in their 30s spending all day online telling everybody Star Wars is bad and to boycott Disney because they ruined thier precious childhood and the market value of their action figure collection has gone down because of it. LMAO virgins.

The Orlando park isn’t open yet.

Chewbacca is there, though.

Imagine showing you cards this early into the game. Gtfo shill

And that is for a six hours wait in every popular attraction.

You mean you never wanted to visit Batuu? With it's rich history of....something? It's going to appear in a book sometime.

You can meet Vi Moradi! She appeared in a Captain Phasma novel last year!

Or there's a Hondo Ohnaka animatronic! Everyone remembers Hondo, he was in Star Wars Rebels!

>disneyland nigger fight shopped in

The one ride there sucks ass. I was just there. Took less than 45 minutes to get on.

By comparison, the guardians of the galaxy ride takes longer to get on without a fast pass over a year after opening.

The atmosphere is cool and very detailed. There’s just nothing to do. The other lands are dense as fuck with shit to do every two feet

She has the logo of the rebellion on her jacket. In fact I'm certain that is a Rebel pilot jacket. The hell kind of spy is that?

Also doesn’t help that it’s hidden a ten minute walk from anywhere else in the park

Hey, let's not overly critique a movie made for children (millennials), okay?

If I go there is this sheboon gonna sneak up on me? That's terrifying.

>Maybe they saved money licencing and other legalities stuff like that if they made it all new.
That's probably a big part of it. Mainly seems to be just because it was cheaper to fire all the costumed actors and make the ride attendants memorize their lines instead.

Isn't it racist to give her white hair? Like that has to be a wig.

The dude in yellow gets me every time.

>Whales
Come on user, not all star wars fans are fat.

Now, here's the staff required to run Galaxy's Edge. The cost/revenue numbers must be gruesome.

The thought process is: If we adapt EU, we need to pay those guys money. So instead we'll make our OWN EU, and have to pay no one else.

These types of articles make absolutely no sense to me.

Why do journos keep writing about the ups and downs of Disney and Star Wars? Who actually gives a fuck about any of this? Why would I care about a movie Franchise becoming slightly less popular? Why would I care about the most powerful company on Earth losing 1% of its total value? Who reads these? Who writes these?

Absolute garbage tier journalism.

this basically explains everything lmao

Yep.
The Disneyland ceo shouldn’t have canceled all the shows, and should have the second ride open sooner.
Also remember most AP holders don’t go during summer, and the people who Saved for 5 years to go, .... there is pressure to see as many rides as you can, so you hop from line to line, wondering around “enjoying the theme” is a waste of time.

>cute and lovely.
Ugh, racist and sexist much? I bet she didn't even have an abortion yet

He's modeled after a nigger.

How much of an actual profit has Disney made on their 4 billion investment?

It would have been so easy to turn a profit too.

All they had to do was:
>create their theme parks in line with the older movies and let lifelong SW nerds sit in the cockpit on an x-wing and take pics being force choked by vader and shit on the original established planets rather than some nu-wars shopping mall ripped from an OC Donut Steel book
>Realize the original trio were the only reason people gave a fuck about 7-9 and focused the story on them while keeping finn, poe, rey as side characters at best
>dont throw away the expanded universe star wars fans have been jerking off to for 30+ years

Releasing the original theatrical cuts of the original films would be an easy way to make at least 500 mil so I would start there as far as fixing this shit-mess.

Shills and retards would have you believe that Disney got all the money from everything star wars related, especially movies, and that worldwide distribution, cinema and China cuts as well as gorillion dollars spent on marketing do not exist, and since GE is a burning money pit it's only going to get worse.

The best part is they built an exact fucking replica of their monument to failure in the most financially struggling park in florida

This era of Hollywood always dresses in jeans and sneakers, makes me wish for the audrey thread era.

These dogmatic leftists are literally too degenerate to maintain their own capital. 1400 employees for a huge park that generates nearly no revenue; even when paying them nearly minimum wage it's almost certainly unprofitable. Not only it's unprofitable, they'll all complain with their SJW hiring team because they don't get paid the salary of a corporate lawyer to hang around disneyland.

They also hire porn-addicted ogres like pic related and generally fat and disgusting looking people.

Mind blown.

Well the solution to this problem in florida was to bribe the obama administration to change the visa laws specifically so disney could fast-track the applications of wealthy brazilian tourists that fly up in giant groups and spend a fuckload of money because its cheaper to buy iphones and gucci purses in america than it is to do so in their country

so look forward to that sorta thing but with presumably china due to west coast

Hondo is based. Jim Cummings is based.

this is so weird

I thought you weren't allowed to wear costumes in the park.

Wow. That's impressively claustrophobic. 11/10. Would manifest the condition on the spot.

What I gotta know is, how much does Disney actually get from the box office? It's obviously not 100% of it, no matter how many shills I've seen on this board and elsewhere try to argue that they do. I remember Last Jedi they got at least 60% of the first few weeks or something?

if you go with the normal 50/50 cut, the movies have made about 2,43 billion back. I don't know how much Disney has made from the other deals they've done, like gaming rights and so on.

It has to be remembered though, that Disney is shrewder negotiator with their percentages and they do provide distribution on more areas than most companies, so what they've made from theaters might be closer to 3 billion.

This all doesn't count how much they've spent on other SW related stuff like theme parks and so on. So, even if they would have made all the money back from movies, they'd still be on the red with the investment.

that thing works there

Delilah is /ourgirl/
>I'm awe-inspired how my black character is getting attention

The way Disney has fumbled the Star Wars property is easily one of the strangest stories in all of media. I don't understand how they could get Marvel, Pixar, and their live action remakes so right (from a financial perspective) and get Star Wars so wrong. It's literally incomprehensible to me.

That's true, here's an example:

mashable.com/2017/11/01/star-wars-last-jedi-theaters-disney/

>The contract to run the latest Star Wars film, which lands everywhere in just six weeks, also ups Disney's take to 70 percent if the theater puts a foot wrong on a number of counts, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

>U.S. theater owners are required to run the movie for four weeks without skipping a single screening if they want to avoid that penalty. They also have to run specific marketing promotions for the film exactly when Disney wants, and not a day early.

>It's an unusual clause, both in its duration (two weeks is more common for hit Disney movies) and its level of punishment — 5 percent of the Last Jedi gross could make the difference between profit and loss for many theaters.

>Other blockbuster movies might give at most a 60 percent take to the studio, and even then the theater would usually get more after the first week or so. Internationally, a 40 percent cut is more common.

They've spent over 1B on Galaxy edge and it still isn't complete.

I don't think Disney runs the Star Wars operation. Kevin Feige is in charge of Marvel and Kathleen Kennedy is in charge of Disney.
All Disney can do is fire Kennedy and bring someone else in (but there could be language in the contract that prevents that)

And the Wall Street Journal link added this:

>Before exhibitors can begin screening “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” this December, they must first commit to a set of top-secret terms that numerous theater owners say are the most onerous they have ever seen. Disney will receive about 65% of ticket revenue from the film, a new high for a Hollywood studio. Disney is also requiring theaters to show the movie in their largest auditorium for at least four weeks.

>Ignoring the terms carries an unusual penalty. If a theater violates any condition of the distribution agreement, Disney can take an additional 5% cut, bringing the studio’s total haul to 70% of sales on a movie likely to gross more than $500 million at the domestic box office.

>The case of “The Last Jedi” highlights a perpetual but growing tension between the business partners that bring movies to the public: studios and theaters. Negotiations between the two parties have grown pitched as Disney has become one of the most powerful studios in Hollywood and theaters have lost leverage as box-office sales fall. Box-office revenue is down 5% so far this year.

ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER THINGS

>Few operators can afford to turn away a Disney windfall. But some independent theaters have decided against screening “Last Jedi” when it is released, saying the company’s disproportionate share of ticket sales and four-week hold make little economic sense—especially in small towns.

>“There’s a finite number of moviegoers in my market, and I can service all of them in a couple of weeks,” said Lee Akin, who operates a single-screen theater in Elkader, Iowa (population: 1,213).

>If he were to sign up for the movie under Disney’s terms, Mr. Akin said he would be stuck playing “Last Jedi” to near-empty auditoriums toward the end of a monthlong run while still giving Disney 65% of those paltry sales. The studio is applying the 65% split across all weeks of the film’s release, rather than some studios’ practice of beginning a split at a high figure and then lowering it in subsequent weeks.

>“When [studios] get much bigger than the other guys, that’s when all these wacky rules come into place,” said Mr. Akin.

>Most theatrical releases send about 55% of ticket sales back to studios, though the average split is about 60% on major hits. Hollywood makes more money on tickets sold in the U.S. than in overseas markets, where the split averages about 40%. Disney has deals with some exhibitors that give it less than 65% on “Last Jedi.”

>Previous “Star Wars” installments gave Disney 64% of ticket sales and included four-week holds, and other releases from the studio usually require a minimum of two weeks of screenings. But Disney’s 5% penalty for failing to meet terms on “Last Jedi” is unusual. The charge will be implemented for various violations, including if a theater pulls even one “Star Wars” screening from its schedule or begins marketing the movie before Disney gives the go ahead, according to theater operators.

>The four-week hold in a theater’s largest auditorium, meanwhile, has frustrated distribution executives at rival studios that also have major releases hitting theaters around Christmastime. Soon after the “Last Jedi” opens on Dec. 15, such movies as Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.’s “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and Twentieth Century Fox’s “The Greatest Showman” will begin jockeying for screen times. Twentieth Century Fox’s owner, 21st Century Fox Inc., and Wall Street Journal parent News Corp share common ownership.

>Of course, most exhibitors make more money on concession sales than box office, and a theater receiving 35% of ticket sales on a hit that grosses $700 million fares better than one receiving 50% on a $200 million movie.

The absolute worst days of the year to go is the final weekend of the socal ticket.

Thanks for adding that. I haven't followed how much Disney has spent on other stuff besides movies. They amount of money they burn on SW at the moment makes it very unlikely that they are recovering their investment any time soon.

Fuck me this looks fun, and now I'm sad because it will never be real.

wtf I love Universal now

>The way Disney has fumbled the Star Wars property is easily one of the strangest stories in all of media. I don't understand how they could get Marvel, Pixar, and their live action remakes so right (from a financial perspective) and get Star Wars so wrong. It's literally incomprehensible to me.
It was a rare confluence of events:

>trump wins 2016 election
>Kathleen Kennedy becomes head of star wars
>TDS is a real phenomenon
>if you want to work on Star Wars, you need to vehemently agree with KK on all opinions

The situation selected for sycophants who were already predisposed to value SJW promotion over a quality mainstream product, and the person in the driver's seat had too much clout for the higher-ups to step in and demand a new direction.

This shit has been literally years in the making.

They thought that their new vision was going to be consumed as thirstily as Lucas' Star Wars was. A combination of hubris and greed gave them the confidence to go ahead with a park which could give Star Wars fans something that no other SW park could.

Then The Last Jedi came out and now nobody cares except the sappy hobbyists who think their manic dedication to a massive, nerdy franchise makes them endearing.

Okay so for Force Awakens:
Budget: $306 million (gross) or $258.6 million (net)
Domestic Box Office: $936.7 million (Disney gets 64% of this)
International Box Office: $1.132 billion (Disney gets 40% of this)

Rogue One:
Budget: $265 million (gross), $219.5 million (net)
Domestic: $532.2 million (Disney only gets 64% of this)
International: $523.8 million (Disney only gets 40% of this)

Last Jedi:
Budget: $200–317 million
Domestic: $620.2 million (Disney gets 65% of this)
International: $712.6 million (Disney gets 40% of this)

Because there's nothing fucking there. People want to see Vader and Chewie and R2 in places like Tattooine and the Death Star and the Hoth base, not some random generic nowhere shopping mall sparsely populated with random nobody characters. The Falcon is the only familiar thing in the whole area and that's not enough to tickle people's nostalgia enough to care.

I always find this hilarious because TLJ didn't set the box office on fire and then Solo flat out bombed. So ALL of disney's goodwill that they earned from TFA is gone.
So even if they somehow magically managed to put together the greatest advertising campaign for TROS (lol), they won't be able to get a deal nearly this good again.

they haven't exactly done well with pixar either. it's severely declined since they bought it.

>but its far too expensive
what do you mean? Isles of Adventure is similar to that. Universal is also making a Middle Earth and Nintendo land that will also have a similar layout. It can be done, Disney is just retarded

The EU had a lot of objective garbage, but it also had some genuinely interesting ideas that could have made for a solid continuation of the trilogy. The Imperial Remnants arc was the obvious direction to take the story after the OT and Thrawn would have been a perfect villain for the big screen without just retreading "muh chosen one gotta bring balance to the force." It also allows for a conflict that doesn't need the entire New Republic to be written as retarded to work.

This.

The plot of Dark Forces (a shitty 90s Doom clone) was more entertaining than anything Disney has come up with.

that makes sense... maybe. its so hard to quantify "cool", right... or mystique, or just relevance idk... that darn ol franchise had a lot for so long because of scarcity , it was like a sub-culture within the mainstream culture. star wars fans watching it on vhs n shit, for years and years. then they flooded the market with sub par products and people finally udnerstood more or less consciously that "not all shiny things are gold" or something and collectively took a step back from the whole thing, the whole aesthetic, that whole world...

what happened? I thought people enjoyed the same fuckin thread everyday?

>(unless you spend more money to buy a fast pass to jew your way to the front of lines.)

I don't even do that just for the rides, honestly. I just enjoy watching the anger and resentment of the peasants at Cedar Point. AND I get a rollercoaster.

Toy sales haven't boomed since the pre-TFA runup. You can find expensive shit in liquidator stores going literally for a dollar because even Big Lots customers don't want Rose or Finn figures.

The only shit that sells are Kylo and reprints of old characters.

That's price per day, multiply that number by the number of days. And you get the total price.
