Both of them have decent villains but it feels like they never develop the personal stuff for peter or the supporting cast much at all. Like in that video here, they explain that White Spidey and Black Spiderman are being animated on two different frame rates to show that Black Spidey isn't in full control of his swinging and by the time they get to the end where he has mastered it both frame rates sync up and they are on the same page. He had the feel of a batman tier villain, and I say that in a good way. For the first time since forever, kingpin felt powerful and intimidating in a film (live action or animated). Like if he ever got his fuckhuge mitts on you, you were done. Most of his other appearances he just comes off as a normal guy who is "rich, therefore evil".

Having him kill/crush the original spiderman early in the film was a nice touch. Plus he casually kills miles uncle. It is rare for a movie villain of any kind to build this much menace, let alone to see it happen in a PG cartoon. His absurd size and appearance only added to it.

If you appreciate Animation, that alone push it towards the *This is pretty impressive* Area. But not only did it go there, it actually told a really compelling and original story, from a character that's been done to death by now, people that dislike the film are just bothered the Peter of that Universe die, because I was too, and I understood that was kinda stupid of me and a bit racist.
