The "lost" footage was what mission control was watching basically. The copy we had it's basically a close up of that. That was already cleared beautifully for the new documentary (and probably a couple more times over the years). It's a composite because the satellite that took the pictures was in LEO and as such couldn't get the whole earth in frame. Because it's a composite of photos from an orbiting satellite there are invariably gaps. Photoshop was used to fill these gaps. When the photo was released this was stated as such and it was never actually passed off as "a full single photo of Earth".
