As someone who loves Dune and loves Lynch, this is god-awful.
Tried to copy off Star Wars too much and removed too much of the philosophy that made Dune interesting.

For god's sake it even had toys marketed with it.

Compare the quote "My Name is a Killing Word" in the novel to the book
In the novel that quote encapsulates Paul's conflict. He wants vengeance but in so doing he stops being a man, he becomes a messiah, a hero. Dune is all about the danger of heroes, the dangers of blindly worshiping fallible men. He is saddened when he hears the Fremen shout out Muad'dib as they fight the Sardauker. He sees the bloody future that awaits him and what his name will be forever associated with now.
In the movie it's because saying "Muad'dib" shoots out a blue laser.

I don't know why this movie has a reputation of being a "bad movie" or whatever. I really like it. I think it's well-made and a good movie. Good casting too.

Yeah but it should be. I'll admit the first half of the movie was alright everything up until Paul joins the Fremen then it becomes awful.

I know. Star Wars is a bastardization of the Dune novel. Completely going against the moral of the story while copying all the sci-fi elements. Removing anything profound in the process.
But the Dune Movie (or to be more accurate its producers and hollywood backers) was more inspired by the financial success of Star Wars

3rd person omniscient is hard af to make a cohesive story on the movie screen for under 3hrs.

The rock/AOR parts of the soundtrack are embarrassing but the orchestral pieces are legit amazing.

Second half's pacing goes off the rails. Paul spends three minutes with the Fremen and becomes Muad'Dick

make it rain ending was kinda dumb but otherwise movie has great imagery and cast, baron harkonen is wicked.

a lot of the cringe was baked in from the grandoisity of the source material, but it was handled so clumsily and jewishly it just ruins the whole thing unless you're overwriting this shitty movie in real time with your own imagination

but the whole point is to immerse you in an alien world and challenge the rationale of your biases, and in a heavy handed unartistic way, lynch achieved that

The one thing I unequivocally loathe about the movie is it's portrayal of Arrakis and the Fremen. The production design is stellar throughout, but they copped out on the Dune sets and it's just this ugly wash of orange and grey that's awful to look at. Arrakis is supposed to be a place that's as beautiful and scenic as it is dangerous for living. And the Fremen have absolutely no unique qualities to them that makes them stand out as a culture. They look as new to the caves as Paul and Jessica.
