>the first 5 seasons of Colbert Report is still funny
>he fell off so hard when he went Late Night
what happened?
The first 5 seasons of Colbert Report is still funny
he has to appeal to a generic, wide audience at late night
different writers
went off the deep end with BLUMPF!!!
Basically his fanbase now are rabid psychopaths and he has to appease them to keep the show running. But all these retards want is more "trump is a nazi" jokes every single episode, that would drive anybody mad.
That and he's been hanging out with Skippy too much.
also apparently a lot of conservatives were too stupid to realise colbert's report character was a character and took him seriously, and it was killing him to
1. deal with people that stupid
2. consume the amount of right wing media necessary to play a convincing rube
The left has gotten more and more insane over the years and so has Colbert since he has to pander to them.
it's just a character he plays, it was all fake you stupid, just like Jon Stewart show
He went from playing a character and making jokes to being himself and preaching. It's not about humor anymore.
>also apparently a lot of conservatives were too stupid to realise colbert's report character was a character and took him seriously
This is bullshit.
Comedy Centrals owns the rights to his satirical persona. Without it, all he can do is read current events and make jokes written in a day like other late night hosts.
So now he plays a deranged liberal pundit, except this time he isn't joking.
very unlikely as conservatives are smarter than progressives. want proof? we dont think kids should be trannies.
I hear this claim a lot, but not a lot of evidence for it. The strongest one I can think of is the time the Bush administration invited him to the White House Correspondents' Dinner not thinking he would lampoon them as hard as he did. That speech is still some of his best work, honestly.
They knew he would be brutal
whoa bigot love is love chemically and then literally castrate your children
He was playing a character, which means it's funnier by default because everything has a layer of satire and irony over it.
Maybe someone involved in planning did, but the Bushes didn't seem to enjoy it.
he was never funny.
t. zoomer
He really wasn't. I always hated him and used to argue here on why he was not funny. Then Trump one and people started bandwagoning the hate.
The fact that he was satirically playing a character who is convinced that his political opinions are the unquestionable truth made it funny, now that he's just a guy who genuinely thinks his political opinions are the unquestionable truth it makes it preachy.
In the first seasons, he was making fun of the establishment and the powers-that-be, and going up against things like Wikipedia. Then his side became the status quo and instead of bucking the system, he played along with the system, and never dared go against them. Your average person gets fucked over by the powers-that-be, and so they like when some funny man mocks the guy in charge. It's cathartic; it helps relieve some of the pressures of day-to-day life. When that funny guy turns around and starts mocking anyone who dare speak ill of The King (like Colbert did with Obama) and, by extension, the system that routinely fucks the little guy over, well, he stops being funny and enjoyable.
Now, you'd think he'd be funny again now that Trump is in charge, and initially, I thought the same. When I heard Trump won, I thought "wow, finally, we'll get some fucking good jokes." But that hasn't happened. And here's the reason why: Trump isn't "the system." He's an outsider, and the media's 100% rejection of Trump makes that absolutely clear. It's funny that a guy as rich as Trump could be the underdog, but he is because the entire system is against him, and they're against him endlessly and over every little thing. Two fucking scoops? Are you serious, man? It's just disappointing, because I know Colbert can be funny (watch Strangers With Candy if you disagree), but it's clear he puts politics first, and unfortunately, his politics now align with the system and against the people.
That's completely wrong. His satire was just spot on. His Rain segments and Bill O'Reilly segments were hilarious and I hate progressives.
