If Disney did that, it wouldn't meet its "live action" standard for their reboots. It would be more akin to a pixar movie with hyper-realistic backgrounds.
But whoever thought live-action (even tho they're cgi anyway) lions could properly emote and convey dialogue effectively was a dumbass.

Something close to Zootopia's style would have been the most sensible choice.
TLK's characters are very animated and expressive and near-realism doesn't suit them at all. In addition the coloring is usually quite vibrant and strong sometimes to the point of being surreal. You just don't get that when you try to mimic real life.

I think that will make him hate the remake a lot more. The new voice of Scar is unbelievably dull and all the dialogue changes are for the worst. There's a really bad one where Scar says he's 10x the king Muthasa was. He wasn't set up for that line in the remake like he was in the original

Reminder that you don't need anthropomorphic visual features to make realistic lion characters feel alive and expressive, Disney was just lazy, and knew they could rely on people to make excuses for them that realism is supposed to be boring looking and bland.

There's a real odd point towards the start of the film. When Zazu tells Mufasa the Hyenas are in the Pride Lands Mufasa asks "Where's Sarabi?" and she was apparently leading the charge against them Then Mufasa tells Zazu to take Simba home. And when he gets there Sarabi is at Pride Rock just chilling out. imba does make a point that she had chased of the Hyenas but how fast is this bitch and what was the point of this change? It's minor as fuck but I still annoys me

I can see why they didn't go that route. Trying to keep old franchises alive isn't a good formula for success. It needed to be something new.
