damn looks like a pajeet hackjob was this made by a whiteman?
damn I miss the low contrast look in old films
The best looking release of the past few months is probably The Karate Kid 4K. Just stunning and filmic from beginning to end, reference quality.
I'm most looking forward to The Shining 4K, Dawn of the Dead 4K, The Blob 1990, The Wizard Collector's Edition, Big Trouble in Little China Collector's Edition, and various Andy Sidaris releases.
Ultimate Hunter Edition is an exception, from what I've seen it's the only release to have done something like this (ignoring all the disney HD releases that completely shit on the animation). The majority of "remasters" of 80s and early 90s films I have seen on blurray all look washed out and grainy, I'd imagine you'd probably enjoy that.Movies made in the late 90s and later don't have this problem from I've seen though. There are notable exceptions though, Criterion in general releases great transfers. I recently bought the Hidden Fortress and it looks spectacular for such an old movie.

Does there exist a site that compares various blu-ray releases? I thought it was a meme until I watched the first terminator at a friends house and it looked super weird.
Blu-ray.com forums
also Blu-ray.com reviews.
blu-ray.com has reviews and they do go into the picture quality. but you won't get something like a picture to picture comparison if that's what you are after.
The TNG BD box is really good.
Any sites for a pic to pic comparison m8?
will there ever be a day when I can use ai from home to upscale the original dvds from like 420p to 4k without changing the look of the original? I hate 90% of bluray releases with their zoomer colour grading and scene changes.
no
there's no infromation ai could only interpret what was there original look can't be achived
In most cases, if you can get it on bluray it's always usually better than its dvd counterpart (obviously), though I've noticed a few cases where this isn't the case. There is a poison ivy trilogy on bluray that came out that isn't actually a remaster, they pretty much just upscaled the dvd transfer. Stuff like that exists, but isn't all that common. It's a good though that independent distributors are turning up to release older film movies, things like Elvira, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and so on, which have been pretty good so far
Can we somehow stop Arnold from dying or at least prolong his life until I die? Everybody chip in to replace his blood with stem cells or something.
This will always be the best
AAAAAAHHH
what about super-sampling upscaled images or is that a meme?
It's aesthetically flawless
lord of the rings
Le Mans
yes, give it 5 years
lmao
the bluest one is the more realistic
The Criterion release is exceptional for this one
Why do so many modern TVs come without motion blur? It makes movies look terrible
I recently got this blu ray at a pawn shop; is it any good?
Are you retarded? Motion blur is fucking awful.
The 4K release fixed this and went back to the original film negative.
soul
soulless
That picture is fake as fuck.
what are some other 4k releases that went back to the negative? I remember they did it for the ghostbusters re-release
dvdbeaver.com
Technicolor has SOUL
YIFY
If by "best" you mean "the worst" I think the Matrix deserves the #1 position on that list.
>Criterion release is exceptional
Could have stopped there.
>What if something happens?
>What can happen to an Old Fashioned?
Mr. Fitzgerald was a madman
I don't even know what the matrix looked like in theatres because of the all the different versions I've come across
the ones where the people in charge them think movie needs a modern update
I'm pretty sure the original DVD version in the snapper case has no changes from the theatrical. Good rule of thumb for if the film is relatively unchanged is whether or not the agents appear to be wearing green ties
Top is better why would anyone think otherwise
You lose 75% of clothing detail just obscuring everything wtf
Also with that contrast the backgound stand a hell lot more of what it needs to be, just because "we can"
I like what they do, but some of their releases are a lot better than others. Badlands is definitely up there as one of the better ones.
Second pic seems like a horrible shittyass zombie from the walking dead.
Lame blueish effect.
why are there even different regional versions, moronic shit like this is why people pirate
This.
And Jaws looks damn good on BR.
American Psycho and Big Lebowski have mediocre Blurays but on 4K they look great.
who is this qt
Last time I ever buy a bluray without looking up screenshots. I thought Criterion would be a safe bet but apparently Mann wanted it to look like this shitfest.
Best Girl
See Sometimes they still manage to fuck it up. Although it does look pretty neat for some of the neon sequences.
> blueray
> blue
Ha I get it
I wouldn't blame that on Criterion, that was the artists intention as fucked as it is.
I was really impressed with the remaster of the first Rocky, Nightmare on ES and the first Chucky.
Why do bluray releases, and rereleases in general, change the way the movie fucking looks like? What do they gain by this?
To give it a more "modern" look or something like that? I don't know. People also set their TVs color way too cold/blue because they think "it looks clearer" or something.
>buy 4K ultra giga tv for crisp clear picture
>seethe when your movies aren't blurry
It's an excuse to market the new release as "improved" or "more in line with the director's vision" in order to make your current copy seem obsolete. If they simply enhanced resolution/clarity and left color grading alone, normies too stupid to even turn off the "motion enhance" feature on their TVs would bitch that there is no difference and not buy the new release.
>People also set their TVs color way too cold/blue
The majority of televisions currently in use aren't calibrated properly because people are too stupid to take the time to look up the model online for the optimal settings. It's amazing.
This is honestly the prettiest Bluray I own. 60 year old movie that looks like it was shot yesterday.
>friend has his tv set to fucking sports mode
>makes kino look like a fucking telenovela
>can't ask him to change it without looking like an asshole
it's always either senile director doing it, or zoomers thinking the movie needs to look modern
pic related is not a joke btw
I know the feeling. I feel like such a fucking videophile autist, but once you've experienced a patrician setup, there's no going back. It's like Plato's Cave.
am I the only one that thinks this guy kinda looks like Trump?
It holds up quite well
I changed my in-laws' TV without their knowledge. They didn't notice that frame interpolation was gone, but I did have to make a concession and set 4:3 back to stretch instead of pillarbox.
what do you have for your setup? moving out soon and I need to start looking this shit up.
>The Great Beauty
I've never seen this mentioned on Yea Forums before.
he looks like shit
if you guys said the predator i bet my brother would appreciate the 4k predator collection I bought him
idk I only watched the movie on VHS
Yeah, it's horrible to sit through a movie with disgusting motion interpolation and retina-burning dynamic contrast and color settings. People act like you insulted their whole life when you politely ask for the remote to change everything to sane settings.
Beauty and the Beast
What movie is this pic from?
Why do animated films always feel the need to completely remaster them? Just scanning the 35mm negative is easier, faster and looks way, way fucking better.
The trees look out-of-place and different.
Although there are some scenes where it's better. In the theatrical release the digitally desaturated the entire weathertop scene while the EE had weathertop with actual color.
night of the living dead remake
yes. they released a new version of this when it's "nighttime"
Tron Legacy and Twister.
Both look fucking fantastic, especially Twister, its ultimate comfy kino.
>tfw decided years ago that building a bluray collection as the last form of physical media is the smart choice
>mfw 4k is a dying disc and bluray has the last mainstream and criterion support
>replace his blood with stem cells
>his circulatory system starts growing teeth and eyes
>Arnold dies as an eldritch abomination
I don't think you thought this through, user.
>loses its soul
The picture quality is nothing special, no color grading or anything. But the sound is fucking amazing, best audio quality I've heard from any bluray
Forgot pic
>bluray has the last mainstream and criterion support
It's a good feeling, man
You're not gonna want to buy everything all at once because it's probably just not realistic for your budget. 4k gets cheaper each year though, so wait until you find a good deal on something that's OLED and 65" or bigger with good upscaling. You can worry about the 5.1 (or better) setup later.
70mm film is like 8K, there's ridiculous detail
DVD is still going strong, the Blu Ray section in stores is always smaller.
>Blu Ray section in stores
Barnes & Noble Criterion Section, nigga
more blu rays at my store
HighDefDigest
they'll also get into if the Blu-Ray carried over the DVD special features or not
One of the best examples yeah.
What is the source on the left? I actually like it but surely it's only like that because of a badly damaged source reel.
