Now that the dust has settled... is kylo's saber that bad?
Yes. It's a microcosm of the the thought process of the new writers. Obviously the hilt is retarded for the same reason people didn't guard their fingers with additional blades on real swords. Furthermore prior lightsaber fights have shown lightsabers don't slide around on each other and that hilt wouldn't even work to fulfill its unnecessary purpose.
Nuwars writers didn't think about any of that. It's just there because a writer wanted something different and thought they could make it look like a sword. There was no thought about function or the setting, they just thought it looked cool and went with it. It's the result of people who never cared about star wars or science fiction or coherent world building in general just winging it with any visual that appeals to them. It might also be disney explicitly trying to turn star wars into more of a comic book universe. They don't want you rubbing two neurons together and noticing the things they put in their movies are retarded. You're just supposed to sit back and enjoy the spectacle.
they could have just given it some heat sinks or something
It was never bad, what are you on about? It's one of the few iconic things about the nu-trilogy.
kinda weird that it was forgotten weeks after the movie
consider it was a pretty big meme before it

What a retarded post
>didn't guard their fingers with additional blades on real swords
His fingers are guarded from the blades by the hilt.
>lightsabers don't slide around on each other
see pic related
>It's just there because a writer wanted something different and thought they could make it look like a sword
WRONG
Yes, it does go with the Knight imagery, which is good design, but it is also a metaphor for the instability and unpredictability of the character. Not to mention the unpolished and unfinished aspect of it, it constantly needs work and is always breaking down, just like its wielder.
That is both good design and good storytelling. It's not just there to look cool like every other lightsaber in existence.
It is also of Ancient design AND the smaller blades actually are functional and used in the movies as seen when he burns Finn and in the TROS trailer when he stabs an enemy with it, lifts him up and slams him down.
Kylo's lightsaber has more lore and effort put into it than pretty much any of the Resistance characters, including Rey. Why would you make this thread? Embarrassing.
Nah. Stay mad, bitch.
Those blades aren't sliding along each other, moron. It is funny how rey's has to phase through to block, though.
>muh knight imagery
looking like something real isn't automatically good because it's "imagery" and nothing else in the movie even shared that theme.
> the smaller blades actually are functional and used in the movies as seen when he burns Finn
what function does the second blade pointed back at you and your wrist serve?
No there isn't anything wrong with it. Much like a real world hilt guard (or cross guard rather), it's meant to stop the blade (lightsaber) from downward attacks. Watch any of the big light saber battles (obiwan v vader, obiwan v anakin...) and you'll notice that their lightsabers slide around on each other which means it's a possibility that you could thrust down the length of the lightsaber and injure someone's hand or cut it off.
>they aren't sliding along each other
Imagine being this desperate that you deny actual evidence right in front of your face just to argue.
>nothing else in the movie even shared that theme
He is the master of the Knights of Ren. His TLJ outfit is basically a doublet with cape included, too. In case you forgot, SW is a fairytale in space, complete with fairytale imagery such as Kinghts, Princesses, and Castles and aways has had that.
>Princess Leia
>Jedi Knights
>Vader's Castle
Kylo is a Knight/Prince, Maz has a Castle, and Rey is Cinderella.
And yes it is good imagery, stay forever mad.
>it's not functional if you are only using one blade durrr you have to use them both at the same time or it doesn't count!
keep reaching
>bow to your master
>stick your laser sword in the floor he just vacuumed
>Not to mention the unpolished and unfinished aspect of it, it constantly needs work and is always breaking down
can you show me one time where that happens?
>His fingers are guarded from the blades by the hilt.
Yeah but if they manage to hit the extruding vent part of the saber vent the he's fucked.

He can vacuum this dick
/thread
>in the snow
>weapon gives off heat or whatever
>snow melts and gloves get wet
>saber handle gets wet too
>lightsabers don't have protective hilts
>somehow no one gets hurt
Sticksabers are outdated in the first place, they were the result of vfx limitations.
Laser swords should look like the concept art, blindingly white and actually tapering + flat
Just shut the fuck up, JewJew.
keep reaching, you're not quite there yet
Great argument.
>being locked in contact with each other while people move is sliding. i'm going to argue this retarded semantic 'point' while failing to understand it doesn't invalidate the fact that you can't flick your saber down the other saber into its user's hand
with that kind of complete lack of spatial and logical reasoning maybe you should write for nu-wars. maybe you already do and that's why you're sperging out trying to defend this crap
>it's good imagery because it looks like an object related to one of the words used in the movie
how's english 101 treating you?
>it's a functional design despite half of it being completely detrimental because it's not literally useless
forgot my pic
stop responding to yourself
Those are cool, except for the literal flashlight hilts. Its still a crime that the sleeveless gasmask Luke Skywalker design never got used for anything.
that reddit spacing lmao
>still trying to argue
Sad.
>more poopoopeepee non-arguments
Read my post again, I don't like repeating myself to brainlets.
>no arguments as usual
>le reddit
Absolutely nailed it.
>
Correct.
I'm shocked he hasn't burned his hand off yet from using it
You constantly have 2 "energy sticks" pointing at a weird angle. You have to limit your movement because you can end up cutting yourself with this "guard". It gets even better because lightsabers can burn through almost everything by barely touching it so if one of those extra blades is pushed slighty against you it will fuck you up. I might be wrong on this but don't lightsabers cut through the hilt of other lightsabers? So even if it is used as a defensive adjustment most of the time you try to catch your opponent's lightsaber in your guard it will cut right through. If that material can in fact stop a lightsaber then why doesn't it just cover all of the guard?
Was my first post in this thread dingus. Cope more.

This. The idiots made it look "cool" with the cross shit disregarding the poor logic of it. If this were made by anyone other than Disney or a new film franchise never before scene it would get a shitload of, rightful, criticism for the trash idea and look it is.
seething plebbittor
>It gets even better because lightsabers can burn through almost everything by barely touching it
In the ST you can have glancing blows all the time easily. Hell in TFA we had two, when instead we should've had two half-Finns and a half-headless Kylo.
No arguments? That's what I thought.
>some dumb shit
>So even if it is used as a defensive adjustment most of the time you try to catch your opponent's lightsaber in your guard it will cut right through
>cut right through
It's going to cut right through the blades? Dumb motherfucker.
The blades don't come directly out of the hilt, dumb fuck. There's clearly a section of the cross guard made out metal. The only way a cross guard would be useful at all is if lightsabers could slide across each other but even if they could, this particular one would still be completely useless.
Based.
Yes. If the plastic T piece wasn't there as a cross guard it might be better. Then he'd need a proper cross guard below it. The idea kinda works, could trap and hold opponents swords in place and protect yourself. The fact they never had them is odd, any training accidents as they slip? They still try to apply force, so when the two blade collide and bounce you're inevitably going to push down on side of the blade and try to slice a limb off (which does happen), it's weird they haven't in the thousands of years of these things.
TL;DR, I like it, but it fucking flawed and wouldn't properly serve it's purpose unless his entire handle/cross guard is made of that plasma/lazor resistant shit.
isn't it basically a manufacturing error in that it is just venting extra energy?
I particularly enjoyed how much it sputters and spits, and how they justified that and the cross guard by the crystal being cracked and needing to vent. It's a nice variation on the light sabre.
It could have been interesting if they thought it through but their thoughts were purely visual and never went past that. If the guard blades were crossed angled forward past each other's emitter and especially if he had some guard separating him from the blades it would actually make sense. Only problem is it might look even farther from standard lightsabers.
>when the two blade collide and bounce you're inevitably going to push down on side of the blade and try to slice a limb off (which does happen)
when blades meet there's friction that looks like it holds the contact roughly in place until they separate completely.
>it's weird they haven't in the thousands of years of these things.
the original concept could have been that it took the entire hilt to make a blade and later writers just went crazy with variations. also i think in something it said lightsabers had a gyro effect so that could be handwaved as adding more blades hurting handling
