Netflix recently reported a $17 billion loss for last quarter from canceled subscriptions. Help us understand why
We have this thread everyday
Hopefully Disney is next.
Why don't people subscribe more for OUR CONTENT THIS CANT BE HAPPENING TO ME!!!
we have them thread again
>We have this thread everyday
Did we manage to figure out what's causing everyone to cancel their Netflix subscriptions yet?
That didn't happen, it lost 17 billion in market value loss which is all fairy dust so some whale jew can buy stocks for cheap
>That didn't happen
Oh good.
They lost the rights to shows so people left.
They made bad original programming to replace good old programming that they've now lost.
Maybe they should have tried to make good original programming.
*kills streaming services*
People are slowly realizing that subscription models are not actually sustainable for film and TV production, unless it costs as much as HBO Cable packages.
If losing some stock value actually mattered every single public company would be dead after a year.
>If losing some stock value actually mattered every single public company would be dead after a year.
Don't 90% of companies fail within their first year
some of the shows are just too white and male
Basically, thanks to greed, there are a thousand streaming services now, splitting content into a thousand individually accessed and paid-for pieces, this fucks everything up, badly.
Netflix as a concept works wonderfully in a monopoly, it isn't anymore.
....well at least they were brave...
I hope they double down on their bullshit as they keep crashing, it's gonna be great.
>this fucks everything up, badly
actually this only strengthens piracy which is a good thing
>Netflix as a concept works wonderfully in a monopoly
it would work even better as a free content aggregator, like youtube, but with real shows and movies instead of amateur stuff
invite studios to put their stuff there and pay them monthly based on ad revenue and relative popularity/views each show has.
then offer a premium service where you pay the monthly fee to skip ads
Well, if things keep splintering this badly, it would eventually make sense to move your show to something centralized, like Youtube, eventually.
Most companies don't even have the IPO capabilities to go public until like 3+ years of being hugely successful, so it doesn't really apply here.
I fucking hate that Google is so huge, but moving content to YouTube makes the most sense. I mean, who the fuck watches Star Trek Discovery these days? How the fuck do you even watch it? Streaming is disastrous right now, and will only get worse going forward.
No one specific factor. It's a culmination of many things which are obviously coming to a head now. Netflix is constantly engaging in dubious marketing tactics with every show they put out, which is an internal factor, but also note the external factor where they're losing contracts left and right as cable companies are all rescinding their shows to place onto their own streaming services.
It's a hodgepodge of messy diarrhea soup and people are just getting tired of it.
netflix dun goofed the moment they made their subscribers more loyal to the shows they had than to the brand itself
they should have gone for the free service ad revenue distribution system, that was always the only way netflix could've stayed afloat when they rely on other companies' shows to get subscribers
Yeah, but on the other hand, nobody is in a good place now, everyone's shit is on one of fifty fucking services. There needs to be some kind of centralization, YouTube might become the new battleground for studios.
The end of Netflix will be bad for consumers who will be forced to pay for several separate subscription services to have access to what they want.
This fragmentation will not make things cheaper, in fact I doubt the combined cost of 3 or 4 services will be more affordable than a Netflix subscription.
This market trend can be seen with MMA streaming and PPV services. UFC Fight Pass is so shit and pays such a misery for promotions to have their events there that all these different organizations started launching their own services or partnering exclusively with cable networks anyway.
In my case I follow LFA, Cage Warriors, Oktagon, PFL and Bellator. Only Cage Warriors is available on UFC FightPass, for everything else I need to either pay them individually or find a torrent. Luckily Oktagon uploads their fights to YouTube for free, but I don't know how long it will be before they realise how dumb this is and give up on it.
>inb4 huurrr durrr MMA is for morons
I'm just using an example of how this fragmentation of subscription services sucks.
YouTube has been trying to get into the movie streaming game for like 5 years now, it's not happening.
>muh two dudes hugging
lol dumb MMA poster
They won't have to do anything if this suicidal splintering continues, the business will come to them.
It will probably become a paid service soon anyway given how much money Google is losing from it. I don't understand why they haven't pulled the plug on YouTube desu.
This. The reason Netflix became so big was because it had a really good cost to content ratio. Far better than pretty much all other competition out there apart from free shit like Youtube or non-cable channels.
If you have to pay 5-10 bucks for EVERY fucking channel people are just gonna start watching cable again, or just watch shit on youtube.
incels just cant handle all this diverse quality programming by diverse peoples
>"not actually sustainable"
by jewish accounting sure
actually that's wrestling which is pretty cool as well but not worth paying for
