It's a somewhat funny nothing special show that Yea Forums hates with a passion because it has/had a loud fanbase, which for them is incredibly triggering. That's about it.

season 3 is unwatchable

It's hit and miss for me. There are episodes I love that make me piss myself laughing for sure. However a lot of episodes are also lowest common denominator Family Guy humor with contrived shock value stuff or violence for its own sake.
I'm also not sure if the writers expect me to like Rick as a character. Yes, he's intentionally written to be unlikable, and this is balanced by the few odd times he's shown to be self-destructive i.e. make him sympathetic, but then the show turns around and invalidates it like in the S3 premiere. "lul I was just pretending to be selfless! all according to plan!"
And I go back to despising him.
Also the Jerry abuse got old quick.

one or two decent episodes does not make a watchable season and certainly does not help when the bad far outweigh the good. it does mean however that if those writers are fired it might have a chance of being good but i'm not holding my breath.

Or the humor of Rick and Morty was confusing and hard to write for, so it's just easier to write violence.

While I'm sure bringing in a bunch of people for the sole purpose of checking off diversity checkpoints, I'd say the quality drop in season 3 is due to Harmon becoming even more of a massive faggot and Roiland diverting his attention to other venues before Harmon self-destructs for the unpteenth time.
