The best movie ever made
You know, I'm just going to say it, 'Akira' is overrated.
It has some fun moments, it has some very good visuals, but it barely has a sense of what it's trying to convey or comment on.
You are in for the equivalent of an anime popcorn movie, OP.
Just watched it for the first time yesterday night. And while is awesome, and the animation is sublime.
The story seem incomplete. Some friends told me is based on a 8 volum manga and that they only adapted like half and rushed...
Still cool to watch tho.
Cardboard cutout characters, barebone plot and alot of name yelling
Just wait for the new anime.
>for an anime popcorn
Popcorn is empty calories and devoid of substance. AKIRA is far from perfect, but it isn't popcorn. Literally every slice of life high school anime is popcorn.
You don’t have the context for what it’s trying to say. Tetsuo can be read as “tetsu-“ meaning Iron and “-o” being a typical suffix for male names, so Iron boy or Iron man. The significance of this is that in pre-war Japan, most buildings were made of wood and had a connection to the land and agrarian rural society. Landmarks like the Shrine at Ise are perpetually rebuilt every thirty years or so with wood from the same forest and are emblematic of a connection to Shinto. After WWII, Japan essentially had to rebuild itself not just from the bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki but also the extensive fire bombing campaign before them. They used western techniques utilizing Iron, which has a much greater tensile strength than wood, to rebuild their urban centers. Iron means sky scrapers and apartment buildings which mean greater isolation than their rural precedents to which community was inherent. Tetsuo’s name conveys that just as man reshaped modern life with iron, those cities reshaped man. The horizon-filling urban sprawl shown in Akira was meant to be an indictment of the urbanization of Tokyo at the expense of its forests as much as it was a prediction. The fact that these children only find community in biker gangs is reflective of the dissociation between people that can only happen in cities, the degradation of the family unit as corporate culture commandeered the lives of their salary man fathers. Every character besides Kei and Kaneda is desperately seeking more power and the explosion at the end is meant to invoke the bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The message is clear: history repeats
TETSUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOO
KANEDAAAAAAAAAAAA HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Is this pasta? It feels like pasta.
No, some of us are capable of independent critical thinking
it really only scratches the surface of the manga, hell it has a good amount of chapters after the akira nuke 2.0 goes off with all the characters trying to survive and shit

Neato animation and art. It's insane when an animated movie from the late 80s looks better than modern day shit
A really outdated, ultimately plotless movie
Pure kino no matter what weeb faggot """"purists""""" say
Literally how could have you sat through the movie and come away with this opinion? Mind boggling.
You've pretty much got it right. The manga is a lot better, and I recommend it to everyone who liked the movie. But yeah, the animation is something else.
ugly cartoon
preping your self for the inevitable leo dicaprio hollywood version.
The motorcycle is fucking iconic.
