I started listening to director's commentaries on Youtube at my new job. Today I went through the Armageddon one and it was pretty good (maybe one hour of it is Ben Affleck making fun of everything in the movie).

What are some good commentaries?

Not a movie, but the commentaries for Venture Brothers is the best I've listened to.

its either baseketball or cannibal the musical that has matt stone getting drunk and shitting on his ex the whole time. its funny.

What happened bros

Fincher's commentaries are good. He's known as a perfectionist and he is, but he's also not assholeish about it. His commentaries are a good mixture of self-depricating humor, him explaining his directorial choices and telling anecdotes about the process of making the film.

Mallrats (Ben Affleck is on it)
Cat in The Hat (Alec Baldwin and the director)
Simpsons has great commentary

wtf is wrong with you losers?

we like movies. and learning about how they're made.

Evil Dead II
Any John Carpenter/Kurt Russell commentary

Cannibal the Musical they did a drunk commentary, Trey talks about his ex girlfriend and how the movie is all about her cucking him, but she's represented by the horse. The first season of South Park had kino full episode commentaries that they didn't release on DVD for some reason. The later mini commentaries are good too.

They're not exactly insightful, but RedLetterMedia does movie commentaries occasionally and they're pretty funny. Worth checking out if you like their channel.

OP here. Yeah, I listened to the Fight Club and The Social Network ones. I haven't seen Zodiac and Benjamin Button since they came out so I don't really remember them well enough to listen to the commentaries.

Listen to the Seven commentary. I was amazed at how funny Fincher and Pitt are and how kind of stupid Morgran Freeman is.

>What are some good commentaries?
The Spinal Tap commentary is made by the cast in character.

So you get Marti Di Bergi, Nigel Tufnel, Derek Smalls and David St. Hubbins commenting on their movie.

They also make commentary for the freaking DVD menu.

It's fantastic.

The unrated Anchorman commentary is legendary. Lou Rawls was involved for some bizarre reason

The Step Brothers commentary has multiple musical numbers with Reilly and Ferrell and some random basketball player that talks about how anchorman is epic

Is that the one where they pretend it's the future and John C. Reilly is a general in some Mad Max type war in the Southern states? And Adam McKay was killed by a hammer shark?

Best commentary.

Just checked - it's Talladega Nights.

Thanks, this is great!

Examples of stupidity. ..?

wut

I just remember him rambling about everything. It's not that he was necessary stupid, but my image of Morgan Freeman was this based wordsmith.

I think the Stepbrothers commentary is Will Ferrell and John C Reilly singing the the entire commentary over a casio keyboard.

are commentaries tracks still a thing?
does anybody really listen those ever?

every time i look into the background of some media i enjoyed im always disappointed at something or someone etc and i t gets stuck in my head making it difficult to enjoy it again
so im never doing that again

ignorance is bliss :)

Yeah, non-plebs listen to them.

here is a fun one

in archer the actors are never together in the studio
each guy does his lines by himself since they all live in different states
>:)

i liked waynes world commentary.

The Blood Simple commentary
is very underrated.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's commentaries on the Cornetto Trilogy make the films much more enjoyable. They share a lot of behind the scenes info and trivia and a lot of stuff.

There's also a Hot Fuzz commentary with Edgar and Quentin Tarantino for some reason.

Marriage ended
Doesn’t have a wifey who loves him anymore
Is a sex addicted booze hound at heart
Last movie he directed got panned and flopped
Embarrassed himself with Batman
Got forced to do Justice League
Has nothing on the horizon except shit movies

It's a pain in the ass to find now but the second weekend of Baby Driver's release Edgar Wright released a podcast commentary and told people to go back to the film and sync up. He'd add in parts like "and right now, instead of Jon Spencer, it's me talking to you"

Also the Conan the Barbarian one is legendary for Arnold Schwarzenegger being incredibly engaged and also saying the most mundane shit like "Ah, the horse. Mm. Yes. I remember that scene" while John Milius is laughing and sighing.

>There's also a Hot Fuzz commentary with Edgar and Quentin Tarantino for some reason.
Oh yeah, they basically talk about old semi-obscure British movies all the time.

I remember Aliens having James Cameron, his ex-wife and Stan Winston.

Just amazing to hearl the good old days of Jim working his magic.

I really loved Arnold doing an Italiab accent impression of Dino Di Laurentiis telling Milius he can't put hand soup in the movie.
>John-a you-a gonna gross-a out da peeeeple

They Live! has a great commentary between Roddy Piper and John Carpenter where Piper starts spouting off insane conspiracy theories and Carpenter keeps trying to bring up technical aspects to make him top. Finally at the alley fight Piper just lays into Keith Davis and stops the conspiracy shit.

>Arnold Schwarzenegger
Total Recall is a must as well

imagine listing to a commentary for a shit film with some dude and his wife

Not the user you are replying to, but Freeman is old as fuck.

Night of the Comet
Incident at Loch Ness
Tropic Thunder
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

this is fantastic

IKR when you could be posting on Yea Forums

The Fight Club commentary is also great. Brad Pitt sounds high out of his mind.

One of the Kevin Smith movies had a commentary where Jason Mewes was nodding out something fierce
Also, never heard them but I read that a few of the Laserdisc commentaries on the James Bond movies had some shit-talking that got the discs recalled and destroyed

>Laserdisc commentaries on the James Bond movies had some shit-talking
Sounds fun

Right

A lot of the kevin smith movies have fun commentaries as they often have most of the cast there, and his older movies were made with pocket change so he has some good anecdotes about filming.

Ex-wife.

>A lot of the kevin smith movies have fun commentaries
Well, at least there's something fun about his movies.

Well,

>watching movie commentaries by people who were not involved in the production of the film
What a retarded east of time. I could just go to a theater in the shitty part of town if I want to hear random retards talk over the movie.

I think some people (especially younger) don't know about commentaries because they just watch movies on netflix or download/torrent. No one buys discs anymore.

This sounds amazing.

This. Only people with no friends enjoy RLM commentary tracks.

I-is that why I enjoy it?

only people with no friends should come here

the one where the idiot gets fired for listening to commentaries instead of working.

office space?

Fuck off you unfriendless

Definitely
