it pre-dated the CW. It was on the WB in the same vein as Buffy/Angel with X-Files influences. It's pretty great. At least try the first 5 seasons. Warning though: Netflix and Prime changed the music of season 1 and it waters down the atmosphere of the show. Early Supernatural garnered Emmy noms for sound editing so trust me when I say you have to watch it with the OST. If in the pilot, you don't hear AC/DC, you're not watching the original soundtrack

Imagine being Samuel in S6. Last thing you remember is getting killed by a demon, an incredibly rare occurrence in your time and then you get raised by the King of Hell to a world full of new technologies and radically different politics and society. You find out that your family is all dead but your daughter has two adult children who, by the way, just stopped the world ending. Except one of them is retired and the other doesn't have soul (which is a thing now apparently). So you get blackmailed into hunting monsters- which you know how to do- but for some reason they're all going apeshit because your boss (who I'll stress is the most evil thing you know exists) is trying to crack open monster afterlife with his angel buddy (oh yeah, angels are real too, and they're assholes) so they can kill the archangel Raphael and stop him ending the world. And then one day you walk in on your grandchildren hanging around with that same angel and apparently what they do all day is sit around watching porn. Strange times.
