>inspired T2 >Influenced Drive >Created Tech Noir as a genre >Combined action, horror and sci fi perfectly >Made on a budget of 6 million, now a franchise worth hundreds of millions of dollars 35 years later >Sequels are still in demand despite there not being a single good one after T2 in 1991 >Launched Arnold Schwarzenegger's career >Launched James Cameron's career >Has one of the most based sound tracks of all time >Has the ideal aesthetic for an 80's movie, still looks amazing >Plot applauded by critics from the day of its release despite being a movie about a robot that kills people and needs to specifically kill one >Kyle Reese went back in time to fuck his friends mom, major Chad > "I'll be back"
The Terminator (1984) is literally pure kino but is massively slept on by everyone. This might be due to the sequels being so shit. Not trying to shill out on the movie to hype up the new one cause it's going to be shit most likely but this film needs to be acknowledged for how good it is.
It's my favourite by far. I don't think T2 deserves the wanking off it gets when this film exists.
It's so tense, so atmospheric, so horrifying. The story works really well and is self contained, it has classic Sci-Fi elements and themes rather than the usual "drama but in spaaaaace" we get now.
T2 will always be amazing but I really do think T1 is the better film. T2 is cleaner, more kid friendly, its a more sanitized.
T1 is rough, it had a limited budget and has far more gore and swearing, all of which greatly add to the horror, and dark tones of the film. T2 is too much of a meme kids film, its still great but T1 will always be king to me.

Great point.
When I was younger, I really loved T2 because of how John Connor ran all over LA, committed ATM fraud, got his own pet Terminator and was destined to be a savior. The fact that it had some legit good touches (Sarah essentially becoming the Terminator when trying to kill Dyson) made me really buy into the "It's high-art" meme for years.
But as an adult, looking back, with all that losing it's appeal, the original holds up better. It's just such a tight, tense distillation of everything about 80s horror and sf, with this whole overhanging sense that it's the end of times, even in the non-Terminator/action scenes. T2, if you think about it, is basically what an animated series based on the concept would have been like, but more violent. You can't say the same about the original.
Just watched it recently after a while. Resse and Connor performances really are something else. Both gave it their all and thats what gave the movie soul. The terminator itself is whatever.

Absolute fact. Checked for truth

>objectively We all now it's a goddamn fact that T1 is better then T2
I saw it for the first time recently and found the opposite to be true. Arnold was fun to watch, but Connor's acting felt like a TV soap actor getting their big break and Reese was insany weird/autistic onscreen. The performances were also hampered by some genuinely awful ADR that made entire scenes sound like they took place in a recording booth.

*insanely
Mason Parker
I don't think it's slept on, it's fucking Terminator user.
Isaac Flores
It is objectively a different movie. T1 is the better 80s Tech Noir/Horror movie T2 is the better action movie
Nicholas Morris
>shes ditzy and soap opera stupid LA chick >hes intense and autistically experiencing a bit of a reality break cos he fucking TIME TRAVELED Yeah, i think that was intentional.
Brandon Phillips
I would think so, but nobody I've heard talk about this film ever mentioned how weird/awkward the film is. I've only ever heard people unironically buy into their relationship, when in reality Reese is pretty objectively a creepy weirdo.
Mason Robinson
>The Terminator (1984) is literally pure kino but is massively slept on by everyone Yeah, I'm not sure if it's really slept on. It is a cult film, whichever way you look at it. Maybe it's not regarded quite as highly as you've pointed out, but it could've been way worse. It could be like Hardware.
Gabriel Gray
>massively slept on by everyone is it? everyone i know that i can actually have discussions about films with prefers the first one. unrelated but its insane how ridiculously well t2 holds up on a technical level 28 years later.
Anthony Watson
how about that fuck scene?
Jace Hernandez
We need a porn parody of T1 where the plot is basically the same except The Terminator is out to anally rape every Sarah Connor.
Joseph Sanchez
its 35 years old, a half dozen porn parodies probably exist for it already.
Gavin Gray
>it could've been way worse. >It could be like Hardware. Hardware is a deeply flawed movie but that chick was hot. It's a shame they never made the sequel.
Jordan Green
I used to wank off to that one most days.
Zachary Turner
The only good thing about this movie is the action, the plot is shit, doesn't have any logic of butterfly effect. So T2 is a lot better.
Kevin Campbell
>skynet unknowingly creates itself and john connor
Gabriel Young
>Hardware >Hardware is a deeply flawed movie but that chick was hot I've seen it 2 days ago for the first time. Hot chick confirmed.

>> "I'll be back" People seem to really love this quote without context, it appears a lot in the sequels and even other Arnie movies... it's stupid without the context though. It's not even a good line on the first viewing, it's on the second viewing that it becomes great because you know what's coming next. It annoys me that the line 'I'll be back' itself is thought of as being super memorable and funny without the context that made it so. Most people who think it's hilarious haven't even seen The Terminator.
Yes, I'm eternally mad.
Gabriel Scott
Based, checked and factual. Even as a 12yo I always thought T1 was much better.
