Avatar was also re-released. Initial take was 2.3 Bn. Then they re-released it in August of 2010 as extended edition with some additional scenes like the school which pushed it to 2.7 Bn.

The Avatar Blu-ray was already out when it got re-released as extended edition. Their argument was that Disney had stolen their 3d screens in March of 2010 with Alice in Wonderland and they probably left money there so that's why they brought avatar back into theaters as extended edition. And it worked pretty well and gave them another 300-400 million. Meanwhile Endgame was re-released unaltered. If Disney had extended it by 15 minutes or so, more people would have gone to see the re-release.
