The presence of those three elements would make 90% of the "movies" released today at least generally watchable and of average quality.

the antagonist is truly alien, with strange motives. we don't know if it's just a mindless predator simply mimicking life to eat and survive, or if it has a greater motive. it could just be trying to go home and these brutish apes are getting in the way.

You need actually skilled artists who know how to mould, sculpt etc and there are less and less people into that kind of job. They are also probably properly unionized which requires good pay.
While CGI simply requires any monkey with a computer with shit pay. Hell you could even outsource it to a shithole like India or Vietnam.
