The DCEU was fucked the second they tried to establish a whole universe with one movie. Every JL member except for maybe Cyborg should’ve had a solo film before JL happened.

I would be more excited if superman still existed but it sounds like they want a supergirl movie. Which is fine, kara isn't bad. But you cant have a dceu without superman. It just doesn't compute. We live in a world where Aquaman will have a movie series and Superman will not have a standalone sequel

If you look at the current DCEU, minus the JL movie they micromanaged into a fucking disaster, they're actually positioned pretty well...WW, Aquaman and Shazam all well-received. Suicide Squad was a hit in spite of the critics, and Joker and Pattinson's Batman are generating positive interest.

Marvel is grounded

They fucked up by copying marvel and rushing to get to their big events. They also gave the reigns to the wrong person. Thankfully all the old guard is gone and they’ve gone in a new better direction. No build ups, just standalone films set in the same universe with varying tones, styles and ratings (R and PG-13). Financially it means the films won’t be as consistent like Marvel (since all their films are very similar in tone and style) but creatively, DC is gonna be better since the directors will have more control over the tone and style of their films. They don’t all have to stick to a formula and timeline and set up future films anymore.

They got complacent and lazy. Thought they could coast on the big names of Batman and Superman. Fucking Guardians of the Galaxy did better than Justice League. Iron Man is now a household name, instead of a B Lister. Spiderman never lost popularity but they only acquired him after they had already built their universe, thus forcing them to develop their other properties.

They took the wrong lessons from the Nolan films. They thought the Nolan films were successful because they were dark and gritty so they made everything dark and gritty to start.

They tried way too hard to not copy Marvel while at the same time trying way to hard to copy them. They tried to do everything that was the complete opposite of Marvel, they made their movies without humor, no fun, and dull color palette. But at the same time they rushed to have their own Avengers movie, but didn't bother building a Universe in order to make people care about it. Then they hired Joss Whedon hoping he could make them into Marvel Lite.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The reason Marvel has been able to be successful was because they are their own studio, and don’t have to deal with meddling. If WB wants a shared universe to work, they need to find a good universe-runner, and announce the Studio.

Because they never give other characters a chance. Look at what happened to the Flash when he got his tv show. Now he's one of the most revered comic book characters now. Fucking Aquaman of all charcters made a billion.

There's plenty of shit to work with, but like many other anons have already pointed out, DC/WB don't like taking risks and would rather shove Bat-dick and to a lesser extent Superdick down your throat.

Feige is a fan and it shows. He fought hard to get RDJ cast as Iron Man. He broke free of Ike Perlmutter and now reports directly to Bob Iger. He convinced them to make a fucking GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie, when nobody knew who they were.

Unfortunately this is too much risk to give to one man and WB will never do it.

I'm personally not sad at all. I've throroughly enjoyed the DCU so far, and even the Black Mask shit sounds like it will be entertaining. I'm genuinely looking forwards to WW80s. I still enjoy the occasional CW episode, very occasional, and the streaming stufff is great, I'm really enjoying Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol was fun, and liked Titans a lot. I'm interested in the Joker. All in all DC is delivering.

It’s weird because for decades, DC pretty much shit in DC in terms of everything. DC ruled the 90’s with Vertigo, BATS, SATS, and were riding high off 89’s Batman. Then, the 2000’s had DC have multiple critical successes with comics, films like V for Vendetta, Road to Perdition, and the Nolan trilogy, also the Justice League cartoons. But now, the MCU is crushing DC. Though DC comics are still more enjoyable.
